Holy shit. Chill. It’s probably muscle you’ve gained not fat. Talk to your parents about counseling. It’s not healthy to think you need to lose weight at 119 and 17.

asmonet is right….muscle weighs a LOT more than fat, but that’s fine. As long as you’re keeping up the exercise, don’t worry. You probably look a lot better than you did before you started running.

And 119 is fine for a 17 year-old….
a little on the underweight side, but hey

Unless you’re a 4’2” tall midget, 119 is very thin. Do you intend to tattoo your weight on your forehead? Are you grousing because you can no longer shop at Limited Too?

I assume like most young women your age, you’ve acquired hips and boobs over the last year…

119 lbs is not fat. Quick weight loss is not good for your body. You could do a lot of damage that you may not be aware of right now.

I agree with @asmonet. And as for eating. Yes, eat healthy. But eat! At 119 lbs (you didn’t state your height, but it doesn’t matter unless you’re under 4’) you probably don’t need to worry much about fat, but avoid junk food and empty calories. Eat 3 square meals a day.

@asheliz: There’s nothing mean here. You need to talk to your parents. What you’re describing is an unhealthy ideal, in many cases it leads to disorders. That’s a fact. We’re not judging you, we’re trying to help. You are already underweight and exercising regularly, if anything you need to gain weight. Ask your doctor if you don’t believe us.

And anorexics are not freaks, you should play nice too.

I think the obsession with weight is a seriously misdirected concern. I think what you should really worry about is whether or not you feel healthy and fit.

Being fit and weighing a certain amount can tend to be mutually exclusive goals if they’re each treated as final goals. I think wanting to achieve a particular weight in the pursuit of becoming fitter, stronger and happier would be the ideal whereas wanting to reach a particular weight out of vanity could lead a person far from happiness and into obsession and other negative head games.

Though I didn’t mean to tell you what to think, just give you something to think about.

At 17 your body is still developing – even if you’re not getting taller, it’s filling out and you’re “becoming a woman”. I know it’s a really tired line, but it’s true. At that age, you’re developing curves in places you didn’t have them before, and your body knows what it’s doing. If you’re active, and you’re eating a balanced diet, then rest assured your weight is perfectly healthy.

It really amazes me how some people are totally preoccupied with their weight, even if they are normal or below normal. Seriously, I’ve only known one person who was 115 at 17, and damn…I told her she should eat more. :( She got anemia.

Weight isn’t always a good indicator of how healthy you are. Sure, you can be a stick at 105 and not excercise, but the person who weighs 120 and works out everyday is heck of a lot healthier.

I think asmonet is right. Your idea of how much you should weigh is unhealthy. I suggest going to see your doctor and/or a counselor who specializes in weight issues.

I was/am in pretty much the same situation as you Asheliz. I’ve been pretty tiny all my life, and though my weight has been pretty stable for the past four years or so, between the ages of 14 and 16 I gained about ten pounds also. It’s just what happens to a normal, healthy girl when she’s starting to get a more womanly body. It freaked me out at first as well, but it’s normal. The healthy thing to do is eat and exercise normally, and love the body that you have.
Also, you should know that your body is going to continue to change. I’m 20, and I’ve noticed a LOT of changes in just this past year/year and a half. Your thighs will get bigger, your hips might get a tiny bit wider, you might get some fat on your tummy that just won’t go away no matter how many ab workouts you do, and that is exactly what is supposed to happen.
Don’t worry about losing ten pounds. Worry about eating right and getting the right amount of exercise. If weight happens to come off, then maybe it WAS excess fat. If it doesn’t, then your body is what it is, and you need to accept it and treat it with the love it deserves, because it’s beautiful! :)
