AH, you never know. One bad day is all it takes. I used to think Chuck Liddell will never be beaten. These things are hard to predict.

yeah i did too lol all it takes is a lucky punch but i cant see gsp fading out of ufc like chuck has now, it will take some one who can go the distance with him and fight fire with fire because gsp is too explosive to be ko’d thats wat he showed bj lol

Hey @varey14 and @TaoSan, can I ask you two a small side question? And this is not meant to be offensive in the least, it’s a serious, honest question from little ol’ me. What is, to you, the appeal in watching UFC fights? As a woman, I find it hard to identify the appeal in it. I mean, I completely respect the fighters for the amount of training they put in to their sport, and clearly they give the fight their all. My perspective on it is that personally I find the sight of blood to be unappealing, and the two guys really look like they want to kill each other. Combined it’s just a bit too much for me. However, I have a lot of male friends who really love UFC, so I’d like to understand what it is exactly about UFC that makes it loved so much. Thanks for your insight :)

That’s a good question, really. To be honest with you, I can’t put my finger on one particular thing about it. I live in Vegas, so whenever I can I watch it in the arena even.

Can’t speak for others, but to me, it has something…..hm….pure to it. I think every person to some extent feels that life in itself is sort of a battle, but in “real life”, all these little “battles” have so many rules and conventions attached to them.

In the ring, everything becomes pure and simple. You, him and only your body.

It must be something really primitive/instinctive, because I for myself can’t define it. I get very excited, and yes, for a few minutes it is “allowed” to enjoy watching someone suffer while he gets “punished”.

It is a little forbidden pleasure where my logic doesn’t tell me it is not okay to enjoy watching someone get hurt, I’m absolved, because he is doing it by his own choosing.

Considering that mankind found pleasure in watching battle since the dawn of time, it must be rooted quite deeply I guess.

To me, maybe that is what makes the appeal, to get excited in a way that I can’t really “rationalize”. It works on both my fight and flight buttons, and I can literally “feel” how these two guys let go of everything, the world around them, everything, to try and go for victory. It certainly has some romantic appeal, and a sense of nobility too.

Hm… hard to describe…

Would it hurt to use a little punctuation?

Hey I am a girl and I LOVE UFC fights!!! I have a Tito Ortiz action figure on my desk! (It’s hilarious!) Right now I am not to sure that there is anyone who can take out GSP. Noone is unbeatable forever though and anyone can have a bad day. Someone will come along and take him out eventually. I will tell you who is even more dangerous then him though! Anderson “The Spider” Siva! He will kill you! LOL! I think he is unbeatable even more so than GSP. Another fight I am looking forward to is watching Frank Mir make mince meat out of Brock Lesnar. I love Frank Mir! It seems like he’s gotten himself back together.

P.S. I also think that Diego Sanchez is gonna squash Joe Stevenson. Not that you guys really care about my opinion! (I can’t help it though, I really love UFC!)

dynamicduo's avatar

@Adina1968, I for one care about your opinion! I would love to hear your perspective on why you find UFC so interesting, and what you enjoy most about it. I am enjoying seeing other people’s perspective on this issue :)

@TaoSan- That wasn’t directed at you. But you knew that, right?

@adina I agree I’m a big diego fan… As far as the appeal to ufc for me it’s anything can happen and the best fighters always fight each other.. Who’s going to beat gsp thiago has a really good chance to, but other than the spider idk anyone else in that weight class that can beat him..

@AstroChuck

It just offered itself, heck I’m a comma-orgy man :)

Just wanted to be as funny as you for once ^^

@dynamicduo I have been watching the UFC since day one back in the pay per view days of Royce Gracie. (Who I actually met when an ex-boyfreind took a series of classes with him.Super nice guy!) In the beginning it was watching Royce Gracie beat everybody that came along that fascinated me.
UFC today is a world away from when it first started. I think the reason that I like it so much is that there is alot more to it that just two guys beating the crap out of each other. There is a stratagey involved. You get to know the fighters and their different styles. It’s a lot of fun! (This coming from a girl who really doesn’t care for sports!)
