My musical tastes are vast. I have everything on my Zune ranging from Mozart to The Beatles to Kenny G to Coolio, to Paul Oakenfold, to Garth Brooks, to Vincent Guaraldi, to Marilyn Manson. And more.

@poofandmook very cool you have a variety

I’m with @poofandmook on the eclectic-ness of my music. But I tend to go through phases of what I listen to most at a given time. Right now I’m on a huge indie kick and have been for quite some time. I’m really into MGMT, My Morning Jacket, Bon Iver, M83, Empire of the Sun, and so on.

My staples, however, are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Tool… in that order!

I’m all over the place.

An immediate glance at my iTunes reveals Dinah Washington, Ryan Adams, The Black Crowes, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Bill Withers, and Bill Frisell.

If I had to pick a favorite genre, I would choose Jazz.

and I mean real jazz. not that kenny g smooth jazz silliness

@essieness that is very awsome!!!!!! very unique people here!!!!

essieness's avatar

@cprevite Kenny G… ewww. That IS silliness.

poofandmook's avatar

I put Kenny G!! :(

I used to play the sax, so it’s valid!!

:(

essieness's avatar

@poofandmook Oops, yeah you did. Sorry if I offended!

Foolaholic's avatar

I can listen to just about anything, save for country and new-school rap. Other than that, though, I’m normally down with, especially alternative.

cookieman's avatar

@poofandmook I’m sorry. I missed that in your post. No offense meant.

Kenny G is ver…well he’s certainly…um, er. I’m sure he’s a nice guy. ;^)

LouisianaGirl's avatar

I respect everyones opinion.

essieness's avatar

@Foolaholic I also really dislike country (except OLD country) and new rap. You are not alone there!

Foolaholic's avatar

@essieness

I used to not be a fan of rap in general. Then I discovered Aesop Rock and Del The Funky Homosapien :)

essieness's avatar

Oh yeah, I do enjoy alternative rap like those guys. There’s another guy, Atmosphere, who’s similar to Aesop Rock that I like.

poofandmook's avatar

lol guys no offense taken.

augustlan's avatar

Anything at all as long as it’s good. If I had to pick a least favorite, it would be country… but I listen to that, too.

Foolaholic's avatar

Revising what I said; I can’t hate all new-school rap, because I love The Flobots.

steelmarket's avatar

Jazz it is, @cprevite .
Grover rolls in his grave when Kenny goes walkin’.

cookieman's avatar

@steelmarket Absolutely.

I got my daughter listening to Stan Getz when she was one. Couldn’t sleep in her crib without him playing in the background.

i respect all genres, and i don’t really like to define what i listen to, because it seems that a lot of people will judge someone’s music taste not by the artists they listen to but by the type.
that being said, i think my library covers just about everything. i’m into rap, pop (though not a lot. mostly 90s, but i have some exceptions), musical soundtracks (evita and rent for the most part), ‘indie’ (indie hip-hop, indie acoustic, etc, etc), folk, old country, punk, rap/hip-hop, ‘alternative’ (whatever it’s supposed to be an alternative of…), etc.

i can’t think of a genre that can’t be matched up to at least one artist i like.

I’m all over the place as well. My favorites as of late are Ahn Trio and The Kin. I saw them on Valentine’s day and was blown away.

As I have gotten older I have begun to shy away from popular music and lean more towards “Adult Alternative” and lighter stuff.

I have enough stress in my life, the last thing I need is my radio screaming at me.

LONG LIVE ROCK!

But there’s music I like from almost every genre except maybe CCM.

cookieman's avatar

@tiffyandthewall: I love the Rent Soundtrack (Broadway cast recording).

MooKoo's avatar

Like ‘em all, some more than others, but none greater than Alternative Rock in my opinion.

Reggae is probably my favorite but I love music period.

I’m mostly a Hip-Hop and R&B guy, but being a musician myself, I listen to and respect all music on some level.

I respect and listen to most genres. It does ‘hurt’ when people put down genres in a very personal manner, and think of you differently due to the music you listen to. My music tastes are so varied, in such a way I daren’t link to my last.fm profile sometimes as sometimes the music I listen to causes people to raise eye brows at, or just give a quick smirk haha (Eiffel 65 anybody? What about the Lazy Town soundtrack?). But for a general idea: http://www.last.fm/user/Skyrail gives a good idea of my musical tastes. I love my music and it’s always growing in size and although I sometimes may want to hide what I’m listening to, I do enjoy it all and wouldn’t give it up because of a little bit of embarrassment.

Gotta leave some love for one of my favorites, The Veronica’s. Not sure exactly what genre that is, but it’s cool. I’ve been listening to a lot more techno lately, some of my favorites being Technoboy, DJ Phil Ty, Grendel, and the Prophet. If you wanted an album that would get you some great artists, I would recommend the “Qlimax – Next Dimensional World” compilation.

Also hard to define is HelloGoodbye. Love em. Paramore. Jimmy Eat World. And one little song that got me into industrial grunge, “100%” by Angelspit.

Lots of good bands listed here, these are my favorites that aren’t listed!

i love almost everything…though i respect all the genres…
i can go from listening to hip-hop, to R&B, to smooth jazz, to alternative/punkish, to hard rock, to electro, to pop, to reggae, to reggaeton…
one genre that i don’t quite like is like heavy metal…like the more emotional and dark stuff…but i mean if that’s what you like that’s what you like…
now-a-day’s i’m more into the alternative/hip-hop…groups like gym class heroes or n.e.r.d
good stuff
