Angels Island (you can park your car either in Salistito, Tiberon or SF) theres a ferry that goes to Angel Island. Hike to the campground I believe 2 miles? doublecheck by googling

Mt Tam…great hikes..not sure about campgrounds

Mt Diablo can drive up there and camp.

I hear in Livermore have a great camping place by two different friends.

If you don’t mind a drive, Half Moon Bay (pelican point rv park or the campground near Princeton by the Sea) both off hwy one is awesome. Check out the long trails off Ritz and catch a nightime bonfire behind the hotel.

Do you want to car camp or backpack? I’m a huge fan of Pt. Reyes. They don’t have any car camping, but there is some relatively close by depending which part of the park you go to. Mt Tam does have camping ntw (Jill E was wondering). Even the marin headlands and tennessee valley have camping and those are really close. Big basin is south and has car camping and backpacking. Also Henry Coe if you don’t mind being away from the water. Have fun!

My favorite is the Bass Lake hike at Point Reyes (you enter through the Bolinas end…take the road to the Point Reyes Bird Observatory till it turns into a dirt road…it will dead-end in a parking lot and that’s the trail head. Also a great hike at Mt. Tam is the one down the ladders to the beach. Ask at the Ranger Station in the Mount Tamalpais parking lot, and they’ll direct you. You can camp right there by the ranger station but it doesn’t seem like prime camping. This isn’t camping, but there is a great old inn at the top of mount tam where you can hike in and spend the night for just $30. No electricity but amazing views and the beds are fine. Very cozy.
Other easy hikes: if you go to the east bay check out Inspiration Point in Tilden Park. There is a trail that takes you all along the ridge, looking out over the bay and the golden gate bridge.

Point Reyes is a wonderful and easy place to camp. You can backpack, and if you reserve different camping spots on different nights, you can start at one spot and backpack to the next. All the sites are beautiful, and the views are spectacular. At this time of year you could easily sleep under the stars in a lot of them without an issue.

Just be sure to call ahead.

Big Basin in the Santa Cruz mountains (towards Santa Cruz) is also gorgeous, and if you organize your tranposrtation, you can do a cool 1-way backpacking trip (2 night minimum) called “skyline to the sea”. You can also just do a loop. There are plenty of water spots, some nice vistas, and lots of tall redwoods.
