How do you practice patience?

Asked by The_Compassionate_Heretic (14634points) April 3rd, 2009

Or do you practice patience?

There’s a number of effective methods…
Thinking of baseball, counting to 10, taking slow deep breaths.

I go for the deep breath route.

Breathe and think of what I want to say and and least 3 ways what I say could be offensive or misconstrued. Just being silent for a few extra seconds gives other people the impression I’m patient.

Um… Go to the DMV and try transferring your old car to your kid. You’ll get lots of practice.

I’m a counter, it’s the extra 10 seconds that keeps me from reaching out and physically assaulting someone sometimes.

Try to contact a human with correct information at the IRS or Medicare 800 numbers.

Deep regular breathing will lower your anxiety levels in a stressful situation.

It’s basic physiology. It’s all about your breathing. If your breathing is steady, you’re steady. Try it out.

I remember the harm I cause when I don’t practice patience.

With a bottle of whiskey and a baseball bat….

@blinded ooh! I might follow your lead – but I don’t drink whiskey.

Sure. I practice and practice and practice. 7 out of 10 times, I succeed. That isn’t a great ratio…maybe I should go practice. where is that bat?
