My mother forwarded me the Mars story a few weeks ago. Since I am in the habit of checking Snopes for anything Mom sends, it took me only a few minutes to discover that she had forwarded yet another hoax:

Poor Mom, bless her heart: nearly 75 years old and still as gullible as they come,

I doubt very many people would have remembered it anyways.

You have to have dropped out in the first grade to believe this for longer than it took for someone to say it to you.

Have you been listening to the centaurs again? they always say these things

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

Really? People bought into that?
That belief would require a very profound misunderstanding of basic astronomy.
