Can I get the apps I bought from the app store back after my iPod touch was wiped?

Asked by nikobe (67points) July 16th, 2009

To go into a little more detail.

I sync my iPod touch every now and again and the apps pop up in the list in iTunes but recently I bought a few small apps (like Peggle in the sale) and before I had a chance to sync someone plugged my ipod into another PC and chose the wipe option.

Does Apple remember what apps I bought so I have re-sync and get them back or do I have to buy them again?

Yes, if you have sync’d it wih your itunes library, shouldnt be a problem, also if you try purchasing it again from the itunes store – it shouldnt charge you… i have inadvertantly deleted a few apps in the past only to try and download them again – and no charge was given.

If for some reason your iTunes backup is not available, you can still re-download your previously purchased apps if you sign in to the App Store with the same iTunes account as before.

Your iPod touch will alert that you’ve downloaded the app before. You can confirm and it will re-download and not charge you again.

Try this with a free app first… just to see it in action. If you don’t get that alert about downloading the paid-for app before, then cancel it.
