If that’s a new feature of iTunes, bravo to them for not facilitating you using their product to play stolen music.

@MrItty That is so mean!! I use limewire too.

@klb2793

I haven’t added music in my iPod since like two weeks ago, so I haven’t seen that. How long ago did this happen?

@Tink1113 I respecfully disagree with the “meanness”. Why shouldn’t iTunes block illegal content from being played on its player? Their entire business model depends on the support of recording artists and companies selling their products via their service. I see absolutely nothing wrong with them helping to eliminate illegal files from being played on their player.

Update to the latest version??

Try “Check for available downloads” or looking around in the store under your account. These will do all the iTunes-server-store-magic and maybe bring it back.

@MrItty Well aren’t we being argumental today, I think they shouldn’t block it, that would just be stupid, alot of people use “illegal” downloading of music for it. And yes it is their site but not everything in this world is gonna be done the “safe” way.

MrItty's avatar

@Tink1113 Of course you think they shouldn’t block it. You’re the one taking advantage of their software, designed to play their product, for use with an illegal product. Your livliehood doesn’t depend on the artists and companies who have a contract with iTunes being happy enough to keep renewing those contracts.

You are under the mistaken impression that iTunes and Apple should be spending time and money to develop software to let you do whatever you want, from the goodness of their hearts. I am under the reality that Apple is a business, and is there to make money, like every other business in the world.

Why should iTunes care if “a lot of people use illegal downloading of music for it”? These are not iTunes’s customers, as they’re not paying iTunes anything for their illegally gotten gains, so why on earth should they care that you don’t like their policies?

As for being “argumental”, I’ll just point out that your first post in this thread to me was “You’re so mean!!!”.

@MrItty
Well I am one of “those” people and will continue to be one.

I serioulsly don’t think there is anything wrong with doing that. It’s not like Apple is running out of customers just because of “illegal content” being used in their program.

Yes I agree I did post that, but it was in my opinion and I’m sorry if you don’t agree.

MrItty's avatar

@Tink1113 Yes, you are one of those people. That’s exactly my point.

I don’t think Apple’s afraid of running out of customers either. My point is that Apple has absolutely no reason to care what you think, no reason to make you happy, no reason to base any of their decisions off you. They do, on the other hand, have VERY large reasons for caring what the recording artists and labels think, to make them happy, to base their decisions on them.

Well, I don’t agree, but more importantly I don’t care. I was simply pointing out the pot-kettle instance of you calling me “argumental” when you started off with an insult.

Tink's avatar

@MrItty I was not insulting you I just said what I thought, I have respect for people I don’t even know

You have a weird definition of “insult” if you don’t think “you’re so mean” is an insult. <shrug>

Tink's avatar

If I recall right you were the one that started with the insult, you didn’t even provide a legit answer to this question, I asked for a bit more information. Did you? I don’t think so…

MrItty's avatar

You continue to have a weird definition of “insult”. What part of my first response in this thread do believe meets the definition of that word?

You’re right, I didn’t provide a legit answer. I provided a hypothesis – that iTunes may have been updated to prevent the playing of illegally-obtained songs.

jpasq03's avatar

iTunes let’s you import whatever you want (in terms of legal/nonlegal)

Apple says “Don’t steal music”.

Apple can track where iTunes+ songs go.

It’s your choice.

An insult is to “speak to or treat with disrespect or scornful abuse”.

Done?

Tink's avatar

If that’s an new feature of iTunes, bravo to them for not facilitating you using their product to play stolen music.

And you don’t think thats insulting?!
Well you also have a “weird” definition of insult.

jpasq03's avatar

I actually haven’t read all the threads, but kept seeing these keywords come up and wanted to try and end it.

Tink's avatar

What keywords?

@Tink1113 Just glancing through the conversation.

Me talking is really self-defeating. Wow, I’m smart.
