What are some good careers in animation? And is it a good choice job-wise?

Asked by freestyletrue (126points) August 1st, 2009

I’m at the point where I should start thinknig about what I want to do in life, and I’m starting to consider the animation path. But, I can’t help wonder if that is a good path to take, I mean, how much are animators paid? And storyboard artists? Voice actors? I can’t seem to find ANYTHING that can help me! Any answers are deeply appreciated!

Most animation is done on computers these days. If you want to draw, the best bet would be to be Korean.
Failing that, the best way to be noticed is to create your own work, and put it online. If someone likes what they see, you could be on your way.

Here’s a place to start your exploration. This is also a great blog that discusses the art and the industry of animation.

My friend Greg does voices for Anime movies. He just happened into it. You know, right place, right time. To make ends meet, though, he also DJs when he goes to conventions. You can get as far as you want if you have a way to get in the door. I know him very well and I can’t get in. Pick something and stick with it. Somebody will notice.
