No I don’t think I’ll ever regret joining or being here.
I’m not doing or saying anything I wouldn’t in real life.

I try to be careful about what I say and post, but the medium is conducive to going too far, isn’t it?

The delicious delusion of anonymity.

I will never post or do anything on-line that could possibly ruin anything in my future, especially job-related. It would be stupid to ruin your potential for the future. I just like to have fun with sites like these and not mess around and be stupid.

I am very careful to post only things I wouldn’t mind being presented with in twenty, thirty years, or even two days. There have been many a time I’ve wanted to post something, not just here but elsewhere on the nets, but have chosen not to due to rational thought :)

I am an honest person. If my honesty is seen as detrimental to my future, then so be it. Of course, I’m not stupid enough to post personal info online. That’s just retarded. I get paranoid about some things online, but that comes from living long enough to see the world has its fair share of psychotic assholes, online as well as in real life.

do you mean like drunken photos put up on facebook and things like that? Because I’m almost certain potential employers will do internet searches for applicants (depending on the employer).

I recently applied to a fire department, and one of the check marks on my list through the whole application process is an internet search, so I’ve made all my profiles private, and untagged any potential bad photos of myself.

Sure. If people link my fluther self to my real self, there could be issues with my family and with work and with friends. I’ve exposed a lot of things here that most people would judge me badly for. I’ve admitted things that no employer really wants to put up with.

I think I’m safe. As long as I don’t do any illegal activities like downloading child porn or embezzle money

Sometimes I wish I could get rid of Facebook. Some of my friends have no common sense.

teh_kvlt_liberal's avatar

@worriedguy you can delete your account?

Facade's avatar

No, I don’t think so.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@teh_kvlt_liberal I know. I do like the concept and enjoy about 80–90% of the people there. It’s just a few with problems, and don’t want to insult them by deleting them from my list. Jerks.

If an employer has any issues with me, then that’s not where I’d want to be working.

Bri_L's avatar

@The_Compassionate_Heretic – Only if you post those pictures. But I trust you!

I think sometimes I spend too much time online. I could use this time more productively to better my career, earn more money, etc… I could see looking back and saying wow, look at all the time I’ve wasted I could’ve… Let’s modify a cliche here: no one lies on there death beds wishing only I’d spent more time online.

eponymoushipster's avatar

yeah, it probably will, since now everyone knows my secret identity.

CMaz's avatar

I would say for the most part.
It all (the internet) has a negative impact on your future.

samanthabarnum's avatar

I’m an honest person. If I end up posting something personal to me, then so be it, but I never just throw my really personal info out.

tiffyandthewall's avatar

spending too much time on the internet? yes.
things i do on the internet? i don’t think so.
i’m pretty smart with what i put online/how i set my privacy settings on things.

martijn86's avatar

I’m very honest and have lots of fun online, that does include some spicy stuff and some political opinions, but if like a future boss were to judge me for that, I wouldn’t want to work there either.

I’m not worried about that, I am glad people can honestly see who I am and I wouldn’t ever censor myself for the public. On my personal professional website, I link to my private social network acounts so people can see who they are dealing with, 90% loves that open and informal feeling, the other 10% would only lead to a conflict after they met me.

So in my opinion people that are web-paranoid and have stuff to hide are most likely the victims. They might get that one job I didn’t, but I can be myself cause people are prepared for that..

See where I’m going?

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

sure, as much as any of my activity
i live with no regrets an i better stay that way
why think about 20 years from now now?
i don’t know when I will die

Blondesjon's avatar

I’m actually trying to promote my online antics.

Better to regret what you did than what you didn’t.

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir Wow… that was a bad facebook post. heh
I’d like to think that exchange was faked but sometimes people make really bad decisions before they think things through.

Bri_L's avatar

@Simone_De_Beauvoir – that was excellent!

Noel_S_Leitmotiv's avatar

I wouldnt want a job from any company that wouldnt hire me for being a conservatve anyway.

jonsblond's avatar

Just the amount of time I spend online has had could have a negative impact on my well-being but I am not concerned about the content that I put online. I am very careful about that.
