Has anyone else had lasting effects from the 1976 swine flu vaccine?

Asked by grandpa (14points) August 14th, 2009

Back in ‘76, President Ford urged all citizens to get the vaccine, so I got it. Immediately afterward, I felt crummy, lethargic, and somnolent. After a few months I gradually stopped feeling physically sick, and somewhat better mentally, but I’ve never felt completely normal. My mind used to be much sharper, and it’s never gotten back to the way it was.

i had guillain barre syndrome last summer, and when i spent the month in the hospital, i spoke to the health care staff and read up on the disease. apparently after that vaccine there was an outbreak of guillain barre syndrome. something in the vaccine caused guillain barre syndrome, they said maybe the preservative in it. i’m sure if you google it you’ll find out more. i did not get that vaccine, and obviously since my GBS was in 2008 it was not related to the 1976 issue at all.

I can get any flu vaccines because I am allergic to eggs, so I can’t answer this question, but I just wanted to pop in and say I hope you find the answer you are looking for and welcome you to Fluther!

My mind isn’t as sharp as it was 23 year ago either.. :D

Apparently this person got Guillian Bar, but it doesn’t say whether they had “lasting” effects or not.
