Where could I find a computer class or degree program online?

Asked by bright_eyes00 (1343points) August 18th, 2009

I would like to learn more about computer systems and troubleshooting. I want to take an online class that would teach me how to fix computers and what not. Not in the hardware aspect but in specifically software. Where could I find these classes? More specifically, what would you call a degree in software troubleshooting?

Don’t you have to know the programming languages in order to determine whether an error was made? Computer Programming?

you can look at the websites for ITT Tech and ECPI and colleges like them to see if they have what you’re looking for.

@gailcalled I took several classes in high school and grew up with my uncle who’s a computer guru. but honestly it never occurred to me that computer programming would be the way to go. LOL. thanks a bunch

@bright_eyes00: Don’t trust any of my tech-related answers. I am a naive newcomer to the sport. Do some research. Where do you live?

I don’t mean to resurrect an old thread but I thought this was worth a suggestion—MIT OpenCourseWare. MIT puts most of their course materials online, often with full video recordings of lecture. The material can be a bit heavy since these classes are real classes taken by students in MIT’s undergraduate Computer Science curriculum, but you’re also learning from an institution that is the pinnacle of Computer Science education. I’ve engrossed myself in many of the lectures and breezed through much of my undergrad curriculum at The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, which is considered to be a top notch school for Computer Science.
