Do you know anyone who drinks only water?

Asked by aphilotus (2926points) September 10th, 2009

I guess you might call them waterholics? Does such a way of life even exist, or does everyone vary and supplement their fluid intake? Are there any religions that require only water to be imbibed?

Note: I’m not talking about food intake- just beverages, or lack thereof.

No. That seems a little creepy to me.

To quote Ardal O’Hanlan, “We’re complex beings! We can drink alcohol, we can drink coffee. We could drink gasoline if it weren’t so damned expensive.”

note: humans can’t really drink gasoline.

No. Most people I know who say they drink only water are also drinking juices which they chalk up to “food”.

I’m almost there. My vice, if you can call it that, is a big, sixteen ounce glass of iced tea with a single teaspoon of sugar, every evening. It helps to control my cravings for the really bad sweets.

But besides that, I drink only water. When I have it, I’ll drink Kefir (blended yogurt), but that’s not often.

I can actually go days drinking just water. Every now and then I’ll have a diet something or a juice but I think I could live just drinking water without a problem. I love it, especially when its really cold.

You will die if you drink only water and don’t eat….eventually. I’m guessing somewhere between 30–50 days.

@Sampson – Lurve for quoting “Father McGuire.”

I don’t know anyone who drinks only water. How would their eat their koshi puffs, then?

It’s a good temporary fast though

My cats although they do try to steal milk from the cereal bowl often

I hate water, but I don’t think it’s outrageous for that to be the only thing some people drink. Maybe they like it.

He is the singer for one of my favorite bands. (fifteen) When I met him the only things he ate was water, corn, and potatoes. I’m sure that has changed by now but he did it for a long time.

I drink mostly water, but it’s not the only thing I drink.

Water is the only thing I drink outside of drinking alcohol at parties and such. My friends all make fun of me for it. :(

In other words, I don’t drink soda, juice, coffee, milk or anything like that. I have milk in cereal, though.

And I like the occasional hot chocolate during the winter months. :)

I’ve got a good friend who only drinks water when we’re hanging out, I don’t know what he does otherwise.
I used to drink a lot of soda, but these days 90% of what I drink is water (I always make sure to have some juice in my section of the fridge, that I have a gulp from every once in a while, and every monday night when I’m at a restaurant with friends I get a soda).
I didn’t stop drinking soda for any health reasons, I just didn’t feel like buying so much. Also our fridge is really cramped.

I’m pretty close.

I don’t drink any soda, juice or alcohol, but I’ll have the occasional tea or coffee (iced or hot). Milk with cereal (‘natch).

Other than that, only water. About six glasses a day.

I’m almost there too. I don’t drink juice or milk anymore, and I’ve never had a soda.

my roaches only drink water, but then, they have never expressed a desire for anything else. I think soda might make them explode!

I did for a good six months. I would drink close to a half gallon a day and no soda. It was amazing the weight i lost from this little change. But alas im back on the sody pop.

Only water, coffee, tea and OJ for me thank you. Except for the occasional alcoholic beverage every now and then, I’m not much of a drinker though. Why is this weird? You drink to replenish your water supply, and what better to use than water itself. I like the taste of cold water more than cola or some other soda.

My husband and I drink a lot of water. I get thirsty a lot (dry mouth is a side effect of my meds), and water satisfies just as well.

Occasionally my husband gets sweet tea and I get green tea with citrus. Rarely we’ll get some chocolate milk, and for special occasions we’ll get a $12 bottle of champagne. Every other weekend or so he drinks beer with friends.

But other than that, its water all the time. Its good for you, and now I actually crave it (ice water for me!). Once you quit soda and coffee, its really easy, and it is soooo good for you. There are so many ways caffeine affects you its not even funny. I don’t like soda now because the carbonation is actually painful if you’re not used to it. Since I’m so used to drinking water, I usually have to follow a glass of anything else with water because anything else leave this weird feeling in my mouth, like the liquid left a film in my mouth or something.

I’m pretty close. 16 to 20 oz. of coffee every day, then water. Generally 2 liters a day. If I go out somewhere for a meal, the water is usually too chlorinated for my taste, and lemon does nothing for me, so I will order whatever is closest to fruit juice. And I’m allowing myself one Pepsi Throwback every two weeks. Although I keep forgetting to drink it!

Oh, there’s also the occasional glass of white wine. Again, every couple of weeks.

I rarely drink anything but water. If there is Dole orange peach mango juice in the house, i’ll drink that. But i hate pop. Actually, I guess I lied. Since our goats have begun to produce milk, I’ve been drinking a little of that on and off.

Me! The last non-water drink I had was a beer (Keystone Ice) on Jan. 31, 2007. So it’s been almost three years. I used to get headaches several times a week from drinking diet soda, and I’d start to shake if I drank more than about a two-liter bottle per day. I’ve had maybe three headaches in all the time since I switched to water only. I sleep better and it’s easier to keep my weight down too. I am beginning to forget what soda and beer taste like, and I don’t miss them.

I also gave up all foods with sugar in them in Apr. 2008. In addition, I do not eat anything that is “dessert-like”: that is to say, sugar-free flavored yogurt and sugar-free gum. Sugar-free substances can really screw up the system because they fool the body into thinking sugar is being put into it, and excess insulin is produced when it shouldn’t be.

The reason I did these things is because I’m an avid exerciser. I have exercised at least five days a week for the last eighteen years, and I came to realize that it didn’t make sense to work so hard on my body, and then feed crap into it. If you own a Porsche, you don’t put low-grade unleaded gas into it, do you? Same principle.

I actually googled this subject since I was talking to my best friend last week, and I said, “I have drunk only water for nearly three years now. Who else does that?”

I don’t drink only water, but I always carry a water bottle with me to make sure I get plenty of it.
