If you could start over, what career would you want?

Asked by JollyTiger (151points) September 30th, 2009

Don’t limit yourself to things you’re capable of doing now but imagine what you would like to do if you were given a magical opportunity to start from scratch and learn everything you needed to do that job.

I would invent the internet, and charge everyone who ever used it.

Working as a teacher, although I doubt I would be good at it. That doesn’t make it less of an admirable profession. Also working in the medical field would be great (as long as money isn’t an issue).

Something along the lines of: a job that is helpful to the community and that feels good doing it (even though appreciation is hard to find in every job).

Film maker. I almost pursed it but was afraid of competition, as well as, the prospect of having to pull a truckload of money out of thin air.

pursued. And I can’t even blame the iPhone…

I am nearly an engineer, but if I could start over, I would have gone into Interior designing or fashion… I love makeovers and change !!

As I said a week or two back – God. Great working conditions, six days on, two thousand years off. Hard to beat that. I wonder what sort of medical plan God’s have? They certainly seem to be a hit with virgins – Madonna watch out!

I’ll try to be a better parent though – I won’t let my kids hang around on street corners – or crosses.

I’d go back and study to be a vet. I thought about being a vet as a kid, but when it came to be college time, I was put off by all the intense schooling. I look back, though, and I totally should have done that.

I wish I had gone into the career that fascinated me as a boy. Heavy Equipment Operator. Sure, it doesn’t sound very glamorous, but then, the thought of being in control of a machine that can have eight foot tall (or more) tires, and weighs as much if not more than the average house, well, that’d just be too cool for words. Have you ever seen this guy?

The money is good, and well seasoned and experienced HEOs are always in demand.

I think I’m studying currently the ideal career for me, but if that wasn’t an option I’d probably do occupational therapy

Novelist. Or a paper back writer.

environmental scientist. but i’m hoping this is actually going to happen. (go me for figuring out a 3-year alternative to law school that is actually interesting, teaches me something “science-y,” requires practical knowledge and skills, and will hopefully lead to an actual job)
