If you have leadership abilities, lead from your heart, and not what the lobbyists or campaign contributors tell you to do.

Shoot everyone who disagrees with you then hold an election. Before the voting shoot every who will vote against you and then after the count, start battling the United Nations etc., for recognition.

Viola! – A twenty-first century democracy.

Would be helpful to know what you’re up against. What is your country’s current form of government?

Learn the skill of debating first. Be an active citizen. Leadership comes later.

It’s really all about the art of compromise and consensus building. We Americans like to talk a big game about our revolution and the fiery orators and the pamphleteers, but the truth is that those orators and pamphleteers had good arguments that helped win people to their cause, but more importantly, the real work of building a democracy was done during the constitutional convention (and before) by men (today there should also be women) who talked and argued about what was important and were willing to compromise to get the most important things. We ended up with some ugly compromises, some of which we fixed later, but ultimately we got our democracy through a willingness to compromise that I’m certain our leaders no longer possess. I’m quite convinced we could never ratify a constitution today, let alone one as good as we have.

By accepting the fact that there is not one right answer to problems, but the solution is a compromise of one sided opinions as to what is best.

What countries need first and foremost is investment in infrastructure—roads, water systems, food supplies, power supplies, schools, hospitals, communications. These can start small and build out. Hungry people cannot embrace democracy.
