Every once in a while I get very gassy down low. What can cause this?

Beans. They’re the magical fruit.

Not chewing your food completely.

@Sarcasm Actually, it’s usually the liquid canned beans come in that give you heavy gas.

if i sit too much, i get wind.

Menstruation. Irritable bowel. Broccoli. Burger King onion rings.

@eponymoushipster you know, gas from above == burping

eponymoushipster's avatar

@asawilliams i’ve never referred to a burp as “wind from above”.

@eponymoushipster I didnt want to refer to the topic of the question with “Fart”, It was the only thing I could think of at the time to say it nicely.

Why not call it a fart? Most folks understand the term immediately. OTOH you could have fun with some of the synonyms such as:

Backdoor breeze
Anal salute
Blowing the butt bugle
Bun shaker
Colonic calliope
Ghost turd
Methane Bomb
Nose death
Preventing Spontaneous Human Combustion
Sphincter song
Tail wind
Trouser cough
Wrong way burping

and many more colorful terms.

@aphilotus No, it’s the beans themselves. I’ve had a gastroenterologist confirm this.

It depends on how well balanced the fauna in your guts are. In any case, all types of legumes (beans, chickpeas, lentils, peanuts, snap and sugar peas, green beans), beets, cheese, cabbage, applesauce and juice, all squashes, all melons, brussel sprouts, green peppers, corn, whole grains, broccoli, spinach, avocados, cauliflower, and all soy products will cause gas in most anyone. For people with guts that are just never happy, like me, most plants are basically bad for you.

See this question for some suggestions on things you can eat.

@Darwin You forgot Barking Spider.

Also, Indian food. Phew! Wow!

@Darwin thanks for ‘ghost turd’ that one cracked me up.

Capt_Bloth's avatar

@andrew Of course Indian food, it’s all chickpeas and lentils.

Processed foods. They are loaded with chemicals and preservatives that the body can’t break down.

cucumbers. I hate it when there are cucumbers in the house. Yet the family loves them. I hate them. I swear you will need a gas mask.
