How do you know when you're over someone?

Asked by naivete (2463points) October 26th, 2009

I mean.. You’re done with this person.. There is no longer a relationship (just friends) but how do you know when you’re truly ‘over them’. What are the signs? What if you’re not over him/her? How do you get over him/her?

you know when you realise that your’e not thinking of him/her when you wake up, nor when you are trying to go to sleep. Time, really, and keeping busy. Your heart will hurt less and less.

@trailsillustrated I’ve always thought that if you are still friends with someone, you’ve never really loved them.. Do you think this is true?

No! I’ve stayed friends with exes for many years. Sometimes after a couple years or more you reconnect as friends. If it’s heartbreak that your’e having, it just takes time to get over.

I knew I was truly over my soon to be ex husband when he told me he had a gf he wanted to marry.

Felt no pangs of jealousy whatsoever.

It took time to get over him. Am glad I did.

When you can think of them….and not get an ache in your chest.
When you can think of them with someone else and not feel anything but peace.

Those are my two gauges.
