How do I make Google Voice's SMS service my primary SMS service?

Asked by Allie (17541points) November 3rd, 2009

I just recently started using Google Voice. The application is installed and I have it set up to receive SMS messages and send them to my phone.
What I want is to be able to use Google Voice’s SMS service as the primary service for certain people and not for others. Is there a way I can select whose SMS messages get sent through Google Voice and whose don’t, or to select a certain group of people whose SMS messages will be sent/received with Google Voice?
(I’m so sorry if this seems confusing. If anyone needs me to clarify anything please ask.)

It is a bit confusing. The only way an SMS is going to get to your Google Voice account is if the person texts your GV number. You what happens when individual people call or an entire group but I don’t think you can do anything about SMS. Can you describe what you want to do one more time?

Basically, I gave my GV number to a group of people. I want to set it so that the SMS messages from just that group go to GV and not to my other SMS service. (Pretty much what it is is that I don’t want to be notified twice that I have a text message.)

It settings just uncheck the box that forwards texts to your mobile.
