Where did all the questions for me go?

Asked by Capt_Bloth (2703points) November 4th, 2009 from iPhone

This morning I had around 300 questions for me, (I’ve been a bad jelly.) but I just noticed that I now only have 15! Is this a new thing. Have you ever had this happen to you?

Yes, it happened this afternoon to me as well. Some of the questions came back, though. I have no idea how or why that happened.

oh yeah… now that you mention it!
I had some unreal number >1K and now it’s down to 99…. hmmmph

Sorry, we haven’t done a good job of explaining this yet. We’re trying out a new system that:
1. Got rid of really old “questions for you” (>1 month old)
2. Cleans them up on a daily basis by removing questions that already have lots of answers (thus signifying your energy is better spent on other questions).

The idea was to help clear-out everyone’s massive backlog, but we’re still tweaking it. Our bad for not announcing the change yet.

@Ben Actually it’s kinda nice, I feel like I finally have my account under control. It was just a bit of a shock.

@ben ~ sounds like a definite improvement… thanks!

@ben: Damn it, Ben! I was trying for a record there! I was at like a gabillion! >:)

I was starting to feel guilty but I wasn’t ready to face them.

@ben I still hate it. Majorly hate it.

Am I the only one who keeps Questions for You neat and tidy? I’m check them and clear them all the time, so unless its the first time I’ve logged on for the day, I’m usually at zero.

YARNLADY's avatar

@jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities no, I too clean mine out daily

@asmonet A gabillion? Seriously? You should be in charge of the US treasury.

I liked being able to browse back through them and pick out interesting older questions to ponder. I winnowed them daily. Now I have no reason to look at all and would like to just shut it off.

I am greatly disappointed that this change came without notice and without options. Big changes are kind of swarming over us lately, it seems to me.

avvooooooo's avatar

@Jeruba If you don’t like it, please let Ben know. I’d really like to see it changed back and if people who are displeased with the change let them know, we might have a change.

I just feel like I’m missing out when things that they think I might like are taken away and I’m not able to contribute to, or learn from, conversations that I would be interested in just because they have “enough” answers.

I think they broke it while trying to fix it. :P

asmonet's avatar

@Jeruba: Perhaps, an option to opt out of automatic cleaning would be a good compromise? I don’t think anything can be undone – but it could change the process in the future.

Jeruba's avatar

Yes, @asmonet, it would. Or a warning that a maximum was going to be imposed and we should bring our count down below x amount. Or even just notice enough beforehand so that we could have gone to some of our backlog and marked them for following!

Having the option that so many have requested repeatedly—namely, a check-box deletion method so you could mark several questions at once for removal instead of doing it laboriously one by one—would have made it much easier to keep the number down.

@avvooooooo, I have, privately, and he acknowledged, explaining the reason and saying he was sorry I was unhappy. I would not have said anything publicly, but once this question was posted it seemed fair enough to do so.

avvooooooo's avatar

@Jeruba I don’t even go to Q4U now, its too depressing to see them appear and disappear rapidly. It makes fluthering a chore, having to get on to “catch” questions before they run away from you… Just ‘cause.

jonsblond's avatar

I feel needed when I have questions waiting for me.

I don’t feel so needed anymore. :(

avvooooooo's avatar

@jonsblond And they keep disappearing. You were needed, but they gave up on you. :(

YARNLADY's avatar

I just go down the “all” list when I run out of “for you” stuff.

jonsblond's avatar

@avvooooooo Damn! What am I going to do when the kids are all grown and out of the house!

YARNLADY's avatar

@jonsblond—There’s always the “orphans” on the home page.

jonsblond's avatar

@YARNLADY hahah…nice! :)

avvooooooo's avatar

@YARNLADY Orphans are how I discovered that award. :D But even then… I went through most of them and was uninterested. I did happen across one that my persona expertise helped me answer, but… :(

@jonsblond I predict… cats. Lots of cats.
