I'm trying to run Garry's Mod on a mac, but...

Asked by Theotherkid (889points) November 8th, 2009 from iPhone

I got an application called crossover games that allows mac users to play popular windows games. I then installed steam, followed by downloading Garry’s Mod. When I try to launch Garry’s Mod, however, I get an error saying “hl2 has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.” After this message is shown, Gmod refuses to start. Can anyone help me fix this?

GMod requires certain other games to be installed before you can play it. Depending on which GMod you have installed you will need different games. GMod 10, I believe, needs at least one Source game from Orange Box to play. You also need to run the Source game at least once before trying to play GMod. This is all assuming that GMod doesn’t have problems with the Mac file system. I only know Windows as far as Steam and GMod are concerned so I’m not sure how GMod might function on a Mac.

Let me know if crossover games works out for you, as I have been looking into it. I’m betting your problem is that you do not have a Source Engine game installed like what @Shuttle128 said.

I’m curious to see how it runs. I tried playing CS:S using crossover and it’s not too great. Emulators are never perfect.
