My Female Cat Has Suddenly Started Peeing and Pooping anywhere But the Litterbox. What to do?

Asked by nj (2points) November 10th, 2009

I bought her a month ago and she was fine, i was also getting her to use the toilet rather than a litterbox.. everything was going fine but now she has suddenly started peeing and pooping anywhere..in washroom floor, my bedroom floor. She was doing fine few days ago even. Any Idea?

AND yes, i bought a male cat and i’ve noticed she started doing this the day she met him. She is 8 months old and my male cat is 13 months old.
I need solutions rather than descriptions. WAITING

Is she spayed? If not this is probably the number one reason. She’s letting it be known she’s ‘ready to go’.

If she’s already spayed then you need to work on letting her know it’s ok for a new cat to be in her space.

The cat might be sick. Consider consulting a veterinarian.

I don’t want to make light of your problem, but did you google “poop” to find fluther?

You NEED two litter boxes or 3 for two cats. She does not want to share her “bathroom” with him.

ready to go? you’ve got to be kidding me. i was planning to getting her to use toilet. Im not prepared for any more cats. what should i do.
NO ofcourse not, she’s not sharing it with anyone, the male cat is in other room, she stays in my room.. im just very confused why she suddenly stopped? and what should i do to get her back on the track??!

You know, I’ve had lots and lots of cats, and every so often you find one that just won’t cooperate. If you can’t get it under control I’d uh, see if I couldn’t give her away.

Cats aren’t supposed to use the toilet… you probably pissed her off.

@nj I have two toilet trained and one litter box. Clean her toilet and bathroom well with bleach and see if it helps.

@Val123 No one should give away their cat unless they must. A vet is in need as this is a female & she could have a UTI.

my male cat DOES.. yeah maybe you’re right.. i’ve had many cats but this never happened.
thanks for the advice spatzie!! really needed it. i’ll do this asap!

My female cat does this about once a week. She hates the other cats anywhere near her in the house. I clean her litter box on average three times a day and that helps.

My guess for your cat is a UTI. My cat is just plain old and grouchy!

@SpatzieLover I know. I suck. One free pop for you

A. Did you change the brand of cat litter perchance?

B. Is the cat litter fresh?

C. Did you change the placement of the box itself?

Place the cat in the litter box and move her paw in a scratching motion. This will probably make her use the bathroom there and then. She’ll go back and use it again; if not, keep doing it until she learns.

She was using it fine before but ever since she saw the male cat, she has started this highly frustrating activity. and yes the cat litter is fresh. the day the male one came infront of her and yes one more thing, he also went in that washroom, just for a min or two though but he did. i just want to to get her back on the litter box. any suggestion?

@nj How about neutering the male?

SpatzieLover's avatar

@Val123 Good point….I never even asked if both cats were fixed or not. Are they @nj?

Val123's avatar

@SpatzieLover I’m betting not.
