I keep trying to write a paper for an English class, but I just can’t start writing. OH NO!

There have been several questions about this recently. You might try searching for them at the top right of the Fluther screen. If you can’t find them, come back.

Just start writing, even if it’s not related to what you’re working on at all. Just put your stream of consciousness on paper, and something might click.

The pole vault that is…
music!

@RocketSquid has the right idea. I would just start writing anything, and it will click.

I think you just have to write, B. Anything. Write profanity, for all that matter. You’ll find a thread. Don’t over think. That’s my take.

Since it’s a paper for English class, and since you’re having trouble getting started, it might help to begin by writing a body paragraph, rather than worry about the introduction.

That’s how I write most of my papers. If I’m not sure how to begin, I forget about the introduction, or the thesis for that matter, and just pick a point and write about it. That way you have something to work around, which can be much better than a blank document.

@petethepothead yeah, that’s a good idea! It’s the introductions that always trip me up.

Ask yourself what another person might say about your subject or topic. Write that down and then agree or disagree. Start defending your opinion, and the copy will flow. I agree with petethepothead. Never force yourself to start at the beginning. The opening is more likely to reveal itself later in the writing process.
