Any one catching the "I survived" series on Bio Channel?

Asked by SeventhSense (18914points) November 22nd, 2009

This is a seriously intense and disturbing show but it’s completely addicting. There’s a little of everything from people who survived murder attempts, accidents, hijackings to animal attacks. The one common thread is that they all lived to tell the tale. It’s a great channel and I like it better than most of these crime drama shows like City Confidential on A&E. At least it’s a reality show that’s reality. What’s the deal with these reality shows? What’s your take?

I’m compelled by the documentary shows like “I Shouldn’t Be Alive” and “Intervention” because the content is real life stuff. “Survivor” and “Big Brother” couldn’t be any further from reality.

They should call those shows “unscripted” rather than “reality TV” because those shows couldn’t be further from reality.

I saw it advertised, but I’m not. I forgot about it. I’m sure it’d make you aware of how lucky you are.

I started watching that show not too long ago, and my mouth was hanging open through the first show that I watched. Some of the things that people are able to survive are completely amazing, inspirational and awe-inspiring. Some of the things that people had to go through disgust me to such a level that I can’t frequently watch it, because it pisses me off that people even went through certain things. :-/

Good point.
@jbfletcherfan
It is inspiring. It’s pure drama.
@DrasticDreamer
I know right. It’s like WTF- you can’t make this stuff up. Some of it makes you question the nature of of psychosis but there’s this other aspect that’s like a car accident. You just have to look.

I love these type of shows, but didn’t know this one was on. I’ll try to catch it.

I’ll watch it now too. I have an automatic pass reflex when I see ‘reality’ show in a description.

When is it on?

I’ve seen it. I love it. It totally freaks me out. It’s upsetting though, just like the “I shouldn’t be alive” show, because usually someone does die, they just talk to the survivors. Scary.

My mom got me hooked on this show. She made me sit down with her and watch it so I would become a more cautious person. It absolutely scares the shit out of me because if I was in a lot of those situations I don’t think I would have what it takes to make it out alive. Like the guy that had to cut off his own legs after he fell into machiery at an oil rig! I don’t think I have that much strength in me. Another great reality show on A&E is Intervention I’ve been addicted to that show for years.

@chyna
I’m sure you’d have to check your local listings
@sjmc1989
You’d be surprised what your capable of in certain circumstances..
As per the intervention, if someone is addicted to intervention, do they need an intervention?

SeventhSense's avatar

@faye
I don’t think they call it a reality show.

sjmc1989's avatar

@SeventhSense Thats what I keep telling myself that the will to survive is something I can’t understand until I am in a situation such as that. My name is ***** and I’m an Intervention addict

I found out something cool. This guy who was being eaten by a great white shark said he really didn’t experience any pain although his entire torso from shoulder to butt was in its mouth

chyna's avatar

How could he not feel any pain? Too afraid?

sjmc1989's avatar

Did you see the one where the guy was attacked my the bear?! That one scared me to death. The bear ripped open his scalp and was kind of chewing on it and the man said he couldn’t really feel it but he thought he was eating his brain and he couldn’t figure out why he was still alive. I probably would never come out of my house again if I experinced something like that no more camping trips for me!

We can’t watch “I Survived” or “I Shouldn’t Be Alive” because my husband has already died three times but made it back to life. He doesn’t like to see others in a similar predicament.

“How could he not feel any pain?”

Shock will do that to you as will adrenalin. When I was shot walking home from school it didn’t hurt at first, either. I just felt cold and as if I was looking at my leg from a distance of about 10 feet.

Yes the mind is really the thing that creates pain. The torture of pain is mostly the psychological anticipation of it. When something happens so fast or surreal it’s almost like the body just shuts down. It’s probably to protect the body from sensory overload, chemical, adrenaline depletion, heart attack and what not.

Yes, I really enjoy it, also, I’ve been bitten and I shouldn;‘t be alive is my favorite. I don;t know what channel 10,000 ways to die is on , but its pretty good too.
