Have you ever had a paranormal encounter?

Asked by naivete (2463points) November 24th, 2009

My family and I recently moved into an old home on about 2 acres of land. I was talking to my neighbor a couple of days ago and she told me how the old man who used to live here also had a wife that ‘disappeared’. I found that a bit hard to believe. This morning my mom was making breakfast when she saw a black shadow swoop past her. This also happened to my brother when we first moved in here. My dog will growl at things that aren’t there and everyone in my house but me has seen a black shadow swoop by them. I’m wondering if any of you have ever had a paranormal experience.

Thats trippy, mine is like a baby encounter compared to yours. So basically I came home from school and I was watching the music video to Brass Monkey when I see a blanket like fall from the ceiling I turned the tv off right away and ran into my dining room to see what it was and nothing was there? No blanket on the ground nothing. My sister was in the living room with me and said she saw nothing no one else was home besides my cat who was on my lap. I must confess though I have been watching ‘A Haunting’ alot lately..

what about the ghost cat. you don’t have a cat, or anymore, and you step over it, you feel it jump onto the bed, you hear it sometimes. but you don’t have a cat.

Something tells me this question is going to make me go into a skepticrage. :)

Shadows are caused when an object comes between you and a light source. That is because the photons are directional, and do not penetrate opaque objects. This is not paranormal. It is regular old normal.

“I was talking to my neighbor a couple of days ago”
That is your problem right there.

Suggestion and mental projection.

There was this one time in the woods behind my house, I even went as far as to video tape the event. I was sure there was a witch or something in the woods, anyway I ended up just dropping my camera and leaving. It was nothing…just an hour and a half of my life I’ll never get back.

@pdworkin I guess I shouldnt have said Black Shadow..
It wasnt exactly a shadow as much as it was a black misty like shape…
Does that make things more clear?

Nope, sorry, the vision is still very foggy.

All those encounters do have a natural explanation. If you search long enough you will find them. Bad plumbing in a house for example might create sounds made by “ghosts”. This website can help you find good explanations:

They have long lists of everything labeled as paranormal. It’ll enlighten you.

I had strange “encounters” and always found reasonable explanations later.

I’ve had too many experiences across my lifetime that could not be explained away with logic. I believe we are all forms of energy and that thought is also energy. I believe that past, present and future are all the same thing. Time doesn’t exist. Einstein proved this. As a result I believe that concentrated focus can result in paranormal experience and that the energy of the dead can remain present or be witnessed by the living. I don’t presume to understand how this occurs. I just believe it does occur. I have known some centered and well-balanced people who have had experiences similar to mine. I have had brain scans looking for a pituitary tumor on one occasion and had my brain functioning measured. My brain functions above optimal levels so I am definitely not “crazy” or functioning with some type of brain anomalie that is typical of persons with several of the most predominant mental health diagnoses.
At my last home four people in the same room sitting at different vantage points saw the same dark shadow of a young male on one occasion. We all tried to duplicate it but could not no matter what we tried. When we saw it on a second occasion not long after I did a little research on the property and learned that a farmers son had died on the property many decades prior. So we did an offering to the spirit and then bid it to accept us as persons aware of it’s presence and wanting to be stewards of the property. We never saw it after that.
In your case you are talking about a woman who “disappeared”. My intuition says she was murdered by her spouse and the body hidden somewhere on the property. Acknowledge her presence and set up an alter to honor her for a time. Leave mementos for her on the alter and implore her to accept you as steward to what was once her home. Ask that she cease to make her presence known in ways that are disturbing to you and instead make herself known at the alter dedicated to her. If you dare implore her to send message of where she may be hidden so you can properly lay her to rest and ask that if she feels that is not possible than may you gather up her alter at some point and have a ritual of rest for her…and then do that. She will cease to torment you.
