What is this movie?

It stars a young teenager who is friends with a crazy scientist who invents a time machine out of a car. Something goes wrong and the teen goes back time. The time machine breaks and he is stuck in 1955. He meets his mother and she falls for him. He spends the movie trying to get his mother and father to fall in love or else he disappears. He also meets the young version of the scientist, who helps him fix the time machine so he can get back to his own time. In the end his parents kiss at the dance and fall in love and the help of a well timed lighting bolt the kid finally makes it back to the future.

Did it star that kid from Family Ties and Reverend Jim from Taxi? That’s what I thought….I haven’t the foggiest idea, but it sounds like a good plot with decent actors. If ever made, it could stand to make a buck or two… and I’ll even stick my neck out there and suggest it could even result in a sequel, or hell, let’s say TWO sequels. Oops, just noticed that @filmfann already guessed it…....yup, The Star Wars Trilogy. Or was it Star Trek?
