Ooh, The Dears – Lost in the Plot

And the grandaddy of alt-rock songs, R.E.M. – Radio Free Europe I like this version from Eponymous. Punkier.

You know what? Just get your friend Murmur. I’m dead serious. I heard this album at 12 and it changed my life.

I would like to answer, but am wondering what you, @trailsillustrated, define as alt rock. I don’t want to give you songs that don’t fit the genre!

@TheNimrod, I was going to give you lurve, but Kings of Leon is so overplayed on my home town’s radio station. Sigh.

@evegrimm – silversun pickups, cage the elephant, etc and all the stuff @jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities and everybody said- it’s sort of a mix of old and new, all our old favourites and then stuff I listen to now and stuff from our childhood (Im puttin ny dolls on there and iggy and really old stuff too) its for my sis and bff so I would really like help from you, @evegrimm, too if you want, this is music for days….. thanks everbody

As long as you “stretch” your definition of alt rock… :D

Ratatat is good. I love their El Pico and Seventeen Years. Similar to Ratatat is Deastro, but they are more video-game inspired. Light Powered.

I like Coldplay and Death Cab, but they are a bit “slow” for some people. Death Cab’s most recent release, The Open Door is all great stuff, especially Little Bribes, I Was Once a Loyal Lover and My Mirror Speaks.

Anything Cake would be amazing. As are Daft Punk.

I will think about it and add more if I can think of anything!

I’ve been wanting to compile an “unexpected covers” play list for while. Things like Alien Ant Farm doing Smooth Criminal, Rivethead doing Bringing Sexy Back, Love Rollercoaster by the Chili Peppers, Word Up by Korn, Land of Confusion by Disturbed, Hey Ya by Obadiah Parker and Hurt by Johnny Cash.
