Asked by Angels21fvryoung (356points) December 14th, 2009

In what year did the term family night start? What is family night all about? How many families really have family night that you know of?

Every night is family night in our household unless it’s Monday or Saturday (Monday night my partner’s taking a guitar lesson and Saturday night I’m dancing Tango)

I think that the LDS Church (Mormons) have long had such an institution.

G’day Angels21fryoung,

Thank you for your answer.

Probably since the dawn of time informally. As an organised idea, probably within the last ten or 15 years as people get busier with other things.

Regards

Centuries ago, when a families only home entertainment was their own songs and instruments, stories and drama.

The family unit has been central for generations. @proXXi is right about the entertainment, I think.
We have a family night once a week with our closest, We get the kids and grand-kids together, Gotta keep the family unit alive and keep the lurve flowing through the family!

I think it’s a sad statement of our times when we have to have a designated night just for family. People have become so busy and self involved that we have forgotten the most important part of our lives; our family. I am not sure when and how this term came about but it saddens me that we had to come up with it in the first place.
