What is your position on political speeches and politicians?

Asked by 12_func_multi_tool (803points) December 24th, 2009

Should their speeches be given the status of a celebrity interview? They have no substance, hardly qualify as a pep talk.

I don’t even pay attention to them. They are merely saying whatever they think will gain them votes. Look at the differences between pre-primary and pre-election speeches. Much different as they are aimed at different audiences.

@SirGoofy gotcha….depends on the Party! They say all the right things to get elected, and then, they do as they please!

Political speeches are nothing but glamor. They’re lies dressed up in inspiration and emotion. Politicians and their speech writers say nothing that isn’t purely sensationalist. When take out all the crap and see what’s left, it’s just a watered down soup of nothingness. And it seems the more flowery the speech, the less is actually being said.

I’m not fond of either of them.

It depends on the circumstances. if they are elected officials, then yes. if it is a campaign and there is campaign coverage, then yes.

@Marina : Lol, so, “yes” then?

I wish I could vote on ideas instead of one people.

I’m a politician, which means I’m a cheat and a liar,
and when I’m not kissing babies, I’m stealing
their lollipops, but it also means that I keep my options open.

I don’t lump them all together. Some I will listen to; many not. I thought that Obama’s speech on race during the campaign was one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard.

They all are liars and I hate discussing anything about the subject.

YARNLADY's avatar

I don’t follow them, as I find them to be completely irrelevant.

Politicians giving speeches, like celebrities and used car salesmen when they talk as well, are the sorts of folks that kick the switch on my BS radar. How do you tell when a politician is lying? His/her lips are moving.

It’s about as ludicrous as when Sally Fields would try to score money from people for the starving kids in the Third World. She has more than enough money to save the children, if the bitch would just put down the sandwich and quit trying to be the next Mama Cass.

@camouflage_pants – I think you meant Sally Struthers.

I vote and hear what the guys are doing in Washington, to get any deeper into the bureaucracy would drive me insane, Since I don’t have time for that, I let them do their jobs. I do hear stuff that makes me wonder if anyone had the ear of a Secret Service man, that he would counsel the agent not to take the bullet for whomever happens to be in office and save himself.
