Have you ever tried a desperate hollywood romantic gesture on a partner that actually worked?

Asked by Captain_Fantasy (11447points) March 2nd, 2010

There’s the classic serenade to the girl in the window like in Say Anything but I’ve never heard of that working.

Did you drive drive all the way to the airport to stop your lover from taking that job in Uganda?

These seem to work in movies but in real life they seem like gesture more likely to result in a restraining order.

Yep. After my current boyfriend walked me home after a evening with some friends (On which walk he told me he liked for me, and I did not say I liked him back) At the door we had an unpleasant almost-kiss-hug and a equally awkward goodbye. Then I spent about 15 minutes pacing my room, until I ran out of my house and 5 blocks to his location. I knocked, and when he came to the door I panted and tried to smile. But he smiled big, and kissed me. Weve been together ever since.

To win Bruno’s heart,I would’ve fought Basil Rathbone on a staircase. It wouldn’t have been fair though as Rathbone died in 1967 ;)

I I think in the right situation it would totally work…everyone wants to be fought for, everyone wants to be the object of someone’s undivided passion. Of course the two people have to have pretty strong feelings for each other. I think if it’s a relationship that hasn’t worked because of timing or circumstance, then it would totally work. Sometime’s that’s all you need to be sure. ::shrug:: I guess I can’t speak for everyone…but that’s what I’m waiting for. But from personal experience…it can’t be half-assed or it won’t work.

I don’t need to use Hollywood scripted romantic gestures to make a powerful romantic gesture to express my love and passion.

@Captain_Fantasy I have not, but I love when Heath Ledger sings that Franki Valli song in 10 things I Hate About You. I don’t think I’m above doing something over the top for a man who means a lot to me, I just haven’t had an opportunity.
Maybe I’ll put that on my to – do list!

When James Cagney slaps the girl in White Heat & then kisses her passionatley. That would be one large hospital bill if I tried that on my wife. For the record I abhor violence, on women particularly, this was a joke, you know, made up shit.
