What are some good examples of situations that involved going one step forward, two steps back?

Asked by EgaoNoGenki (1164points) March 7th, 2010

Please give any memorable example at all of going one step forward, two steps back and what all we can learn from it?

I want to be sure that if any of us readers ever come across a similar situation, we’d know what to do in order not to repeat the same mistake of going one step forward, two steps back. Thanks.

Credit cards.

@FutureMemory Yes, GREAT example – one step forward in the gain of material wealth, but two steps back in the other kind of wealth!

I now have a zero-balance on my credit card because I’ve read horror stories about them that ended up being scarier than student loans! I let my card expire in July, and the new card I got, I haven’t reactivated over the phone. I’m saving it for a super-rainy day.

i was transferred to another office last August, doing different work than i had been doing previously. there’s not really much training, the training is as you go, as you need, as you make mistakes, they correct you. so i have found that i learn some, then i make a mistake with an “exception to the rule” type of thing, then i become more familiar with something, then there’s a problem with something. i was just thinking the other day that it’s “two steps forward, one step back.” one day i am happy because i did well, one day i am baffled because of a mistake i made.

The more money you earn, the more money you will owe. Refuse the raise, you will be much happier!

@Cruiser That makes no sense what-so-ever.

The current attempt to reform health care in which a bill was passed by the House, almost passed by the Senate, but then an absolute trainwreck of partisan fear-mongering ruined the words “health care reform”.

Relationships can be like that. Bruce Springsteen sang about it in One Step Up.

My life has been a slippery slope, but I have found that two steps forward and one step back is the norm. I mean, I’ve gotten ahead, but only slowly, slowly.
