What has happened to Pedigree dog food?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) March 13th, 2010

Ever since my border collie was a puppy, he has been fed nothing but Pedigree dog food. he is older now, but he is till healthy. something has happened and i am not sure if its my border collies taste or if Pedigree has changed the contents of its canned dog food. in either case, my border collie has stopped eating Pedigree. he gives one sniff and its over. he turns up his nose and politely walks away. his Pedigree will stay in his bowl all day and he just ignores it. anyone else having this same problem?

I really don’t know what has happened to Pedigree (tinned) food, but exactly the same thing has happened with my two dogs.
I have two Lhasa apsos and quite suddenly, and on the same day, they refused to eat the food.
Incidentally, one of my dogs will eat just about everything and anything usually.
They are now on Winalot, and are eating normally again. I have occasionally tried the Pedigree, but I get exactly the same response… they sniff it and walk away.

When dog training I tell most of the owners to stay away from Pedigree Chum. The cheaper dog foods, like Winalot @partyparty or Bakers are much better for the majority of dogs than Pedigree Chum. In fact, I don’t know any trainers, breeders or vets that recommend Pedigree Chum anymore despite what the adverts tell you.

@Leanne1986 Thanks for the information. Does Pedigree contain more water? I know my dogs greedily eat their Winalot. I also feed them Bakers complete (the soft sticks) and again they love this.
