Any tips for my interview today?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) April 9th, 2010 from iPhone

I have my second interview today at BonTon. The first one went very well. I was cool, calm, and collected. I gave solid answers and the woman was very friendly. They asked me to come back for a second interview. I’m not sure what the purpose of another interview is? But for some reason I’m a lot more on edge about this one. This time around the lady who will interview me is a tough cookie. I’ve seen her around the store and she seems uptight, and dare I say, mean…How can I win this one over? It’s always hard to keep an upbeat attitude when the person you’re speaking to is so negetive. Any advice?

Be attractive.

Be positive. As I am sure you are.

I have found that if YOU ask questions (since you have already been there), you should have a few. (Sort of a review)
About the company, even their personal life. If possible. It shows a sincere interest in them. Sort of a nice way to kiss ass.

Oh, fresh breath, don’t ramble.

@jfos I planned on looking nice. But it’s a woman interviewing me. What will she care if I look pretty?

@ChazMaz Questions are always a smart idea. Thanks for that tip :)

@ItalianPrincess1217 She will care that you look pretty because it is a retail clothing/jewelry store. So she will obviously want to portray to customers beautiful staff.

Three helpful points from me:

The reason they are giving another interview is because they are serious in considering to employ you and just want to make sure.

I’m sure she’s not as mean one-to-one. It’s impossible to tell really. How has she treated fellow employees?

And basically just be polite and try to be as calm as your first interview. Just remain confident and think that this job is yours (but obviously don’t verbalise this else you just sound cocky :D).

@jfos True. Lucky for me every item I’m wearing was purchased from their store. Yeah, I’m a kiss ass ;)

Show up promptly, even a few minutes early for the interview. Stay focused and composed. Don’t answer with “I don’t know.” Instead say, “I can find out about…” or “Can I get back to you with an answer for that?”.

Look and sound the part of the job position.

Just thought I’d update everyone. The interview went great! The lady was actually very nice. I think this one went even better than the first. It sounded like I’ll be getting the job. She just has to run it by the HR lady and we should be all set. Thanks for the tips!
@ChazMaz I’m so glad you gave me that advice on the questions. I think she was pleasantly surprised when I actually had some good questions for her.

when i got asked to come back that was sometimes their way of making the final decision…maybe even to have another HR person or VP in on the interview…Stay calm…ask your question you might have about the company ie: how do they feel about vacation time notices, history of the company, maybe ask if they participate in off duty sports as a team? etc

@shimmer_96 Thanks for the advice. But I already got the job! :) And I actually like it. Who knew?
