What does a tattoo in a dream mean?

Asked by shpadoinkle_sue (7188points) April 26th, 2010

I tried looking it up myself, but my dreams are so frigging random
I usually don’t care but this time it’s bugging me. I can’t firgure it out. The most important part I wanted to know about was that I was looking in a full width mirror in a bathroom. They go wall to wall. I could see a tattoo on my back of my abdominal cavity. Lungs, heart, veins, intestines, stomach, the whole thing. It was iridescent or had a gold glow to it. Everything else was in blue and red, except my intestines, which were more white-ish. It covered my whole back.

I understand that this gets asked a lot, but could someone humor me? I’d really appreciate it.

“Your dream could be telling you that a certain action will have long lasting and visible effects.”

“Tattoos may represent those things in our lives that seem only “skin deep” but may be interesting and fun. They could represent our thinking, our playful ways, and our seemingly unimportant habits. As time progresses, we may realize that our passing fads have become permanent. Thus, a tattoo may be symbolic of something that we inflict on ourselves, is permanent if not deep, and generally carries with it some negativity.”

At the mention of your “back”, I instantly recalled the Kundalini:

Kundalini is a psycho-spiritual energy, the energy of the consciousness, which is thought to reside within the sleeping body, and is aroused either through spiritual discipline or spontaneously to bring new states of consciousness, including mystical illumination. Kundalini is Sanskrit for “snake” or “serpent power,” so-called because it is believed to lie like a serpent in the root chakra at the base of the spine.

Body awareness, introspection, enlightenment, intuition… these are all themes that come to mind. Even “vulnerability”, like wearing your HEART on your sleeve…?

And for the tattoo… personal advertisement, making a statement, making a mark, reaffirmation (because you were looking at your OWN organs).

This is such an incredible sounding dream, especially because you said they were glowing!

Apply these suggestions to anything relevant in your current life situation that could be affecting your health and/or psyche in a positive or negative way. Perhaps you need to investigate something you’ve been keeping inside, that’s now trying to reveal itself?

Log this dream WITH illustrations to help keep the exact details fresh in your head in case you’d like to return to it at a later time. That tends to help me.

My interpretation is really very choppy… I know, but I was trying to type the thoughts down as they fired off before trailing away.

I hope this was at least able to get some brain juices going… GOOD LUCK.*

To dream that you have tattoos, represent your sense of individuality and the desire to stand out in a crowd. You want to be unique and different from everybody else, particularly if you do not have any tattoos in real life. Consider also what the tattoo is and what significance it has in your life. It may represent something that has left a lasting impression on you. Alternatively, to dream that you have a tattoo, suggests that a waking situation or decision is having a much longer lasting effect that you had expected.
