NSFW: Fluther women: how can I get rid of this bump?

Asked by michaelangelo (60points) May 14th, 2010

This is semi unpleasant, just to warn you!

I’ll jump right in. I shaved down there about 2 weeks ago or a week and a half. Every once in a while after I shave, since I get somewhat irritated down there from itching and rubbing (I don’t know why I even do it!) I will get a little bump that days later will pop and have a small amount of pus in it. So about a week ago I got one that looked like any other one so i tried to get it to go away just like I would with any other one. It stayed the same size for several days but then it grew. After looking at it closer, I think there is actually 2 bumps and one or both may be ingrown hairs. They have no “head” on them to pop, but they are large now and feel/look like ingrown hairs. But usually with ingrown hairs I can get the other end of the hair to come out easily. But these ones are getting painful! And it’s in a bad spot where my boyfriend will sometimes hit the spot with his pubic bone during sex and it is really not a good feeling at all. So does anyone know what I’m talking about or know what might make them go away? Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

I’m sorry this wasn’t the prettiest question in the book.

It’s an infected hair follicle. Wash it with antiseptic soap and apply hot compresses to the area several times a day. It will go away.

I am not a fluther woman but maybe this would help….have you tried aloes? Aloes is very good for the skin and it is a natural herb healer. Find an Aloes plant, break off one of the leaves and rub the gel onto the affected area and leave it for 12 hours. It should work after a few times using it.

Guys get the same thing shaving their faces. I usually use tweezers to get the hair loose. I’m guessing you used a regular razor. It cuts the hair off very closely, but then it grows under the skin instead of out. Try using an electric razor. It wont cut as close, but you’ll get fewer ingrown hairs.

Most of the people who have shared stories with me of ingrown hairs in the pubic area (why must they tell me these things, why?!?) have eventually required a trip to the doctor for minor surgery/lancing.

@syz I was thinking the same thing as I looked at what I wrote. We’re discussing lumps in the pubic area? It must be a friday morning.

@michaelangelo Mine have gone away just using the treatment I described. I would try that for a week or two first, unless it is too uncormfortable, in which case see the doctor.

Don’t pop it! Probably an ingrown hair. Leave it alone, or follow janbb’s advice :)

P.S. I was told this advice by a doctor.

I would only like to add that tea tree oil is a very effective antibiotic and analgesic treatment which you can use to help with swelling, itching, and any infection. Just don’t get it on the inner parts of your hoo-hoo.

Also, after you shave, put cortizone cream on the area. That also helps. I’d go around this area for a while until these hairs come to a head. Pull them out & then use these remedies to keep them away in the future.

You might try harm/hot compresses. These should bring the sebum to the surface. Then you can lance and drain them. You should then keep the area covered to prevent infection. I’ve been thinking a lot about electrolysis myself. One has to get into some very awkward positions, it’s time consuming, it itches and grows back far too quickly. Hate, hate, hate!

Here’s an idea… leave the hair grow!

Honestly, what I would do is sterilize a needle by lighting it on fire and lancing it myself by just popping a little hole in the center of it. Squeeze. Let the pus drain out. Ify ou see the hair at that point, pull it out.

The pain is the pressure your feeling in a highly nerved area.

It may not be an ingrown hair at all. It could be a blocked gland. Let your GYN have a look.

I agree with @legenwaitfiritdairy I don’t think there are glands on your pubic bone area.

after i shave, i always wash with a soap like dove or lever 2000 (i forget if that’s the exact name but you know what i mean) ... and lately, after having a similar issue, my best friend told me to try Gold Bond and OH MY GOD. seriously, go get some Gold Bond.

@faye This is a common problem for females. Bartholins abscess the build-up of pus that forms a lump (swelling) in one of the Bartholin’s glands, which are located on each side of the vaginal opening.

@perspicacious exactly, she said it hurt when her boyfriend’s pubic bone pressed on it. Though on the other hand, it has been so long, anatomy might have changed. I don’t know why women shave themselves anyway- men should be happy you’re there, not adding conditions.

If the hair decided it wants to grow in a tight little curl and the pore is blocked or the hair is trapped by hardened sebum/pus whatever then it’s going to hurt you for sometime to come and get bigger. It may drain occasionally but the hair not come to the surface for months. If you can afford the investment then find a laser clinic that will charge you no more than $100. a zap and have the crease of your inner thighs done or wherever the ingrowns occur. It will take about 5 sessions but feels so nice in the meantime not to be in pain.

I had the same thing happen (until I started waxing) anywho anything with sysilic acid helps. I had a really bad one and I tried dr shoals corn remover because it has a high concentrate of acid… It worked like a charm in just a couple of days… My advice- learn to wax. So convenient and when done right, doesn’t hurt that bad- especially if you use smaller strips :) good luck!
