Where do you keep your wallet or purse, and are you left or right handed?

Asked by RocketSquid (3483points) May 24th, 2010

Just out of curiosity, are you right or left handed? Also, which side do you keep your purse or your wallet, your left or your right?

Yes, they’re somewhat related.

I’m right-handed and I either put my wallet in my front right or front left pocket. There’s no consistency. It literally switches every time. :P

But this is mainly because I also have my student ID card and my iPhone in my pockets as well. All are equally as important and they switch around as to what front pocket they are in. The main thing is that I never put anything in my back pockets. I don’t like the feeling of constantly sitting on something like that.

I’m right handed, I have my purse on my left shoulder.

Right handed, wallet in my left pocket

Left handed and I place my wallet in my left, back pocket.

stranger_in_a_strange_land's avatar

Right handed. Wallet in right front, shoulder holster on left.

tedibear's avatar

I’m left-handed and I carry my purse over my left shoulder.

Right handed, purse on right shoulder. It just feels totally awkward on the left side, like there’s no groove for it on my shoulder, and it’s jutting out of the side of my body. When it’s on the right side, it feels naturally tucked against my body. Weird.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

Right handed but I switch up shoulders.

I’m mostly right handed, partially ambidextrous, and I keep my belongings in a fanny pack when I go out. I wear it on the right side when I’m driving and my left side when I’m a passenger, to help hold the seat belt down, because I’m very short.

right handed with a few left tenancies wallet is always in my right front but my phone and keys are always in my left pocket front

I hate wallets in my pants and rarely will carry it there…my wallet is in my car to my right as that is the only compartment in my car and I am right handed.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

I’m ambidextrous and handbags usually go in the hand not being held by bf or away from the streetside while walking. Had to really think about this one.

I’m right handed, and I keep my wallet in my back right pocket.

I find it odd that so many keep their wallet in their front pockets. It seems like it would be really uncomfortable.

perspicacious's avatar

Right handed, bag on left shoulder. I think this is pretty common.

tranquilsea's avatar

Are there any known Jelly pickpockets who could benefit from this info?

i am a proud right handed member of this community. but i wear a backpack so i guess it doesn’t matter. though when i sling it around to get something out of it, i always sling to the left side.

Primobabe's avatar

Left-handed. Pocketbook on my right shoulder.

partyparty's avatar

I am left handed and I carry my bag/purse on my right shoulder, to make it easily accessible with my left hand.

perspicacious's avatar

@Primobabe I haven’t heard anyone use the word pocketbook in ages.

Primobabe's avatar

@perspicacious (Tee hee!) I guess you’re right; not very many people call it a “pocketbook.” But, I’ve used that word my entire life, so it’s an ingrained habit.

I grew up in southeastern New England, where there are all sorts of unusual expressions.

Turn signal = directional
Milk shake = frappe or cabinet
Lunch = dinner
Dinner = supper
Soft shell clams = steamers

downtide's avatar

I’m right handed and carry my wallet in the front right pocket when I’m walking around town (because it’s near-impossible to be pickpocketed from that pocket), and I move it to the rear pocket for comfort when I’m sitting down.

zenele's avatar

@downtide Check your pocket. Aha! Gotcha.

downtide's avatar

@zenele hey I felt that! O.o
