Do you believe Justin Bieber will eclipse Michael Jackson as an entertainer?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) June 25th, 2010

Eight years from now will you be able to go to just about any point on the globe and people will know Justin Bieber the same way one can mention Michael Jackson and he will be known? Do you think Justin Bieber will ever pull 7 Grammies off one album? Will Justin Bieber het hotter over the next decade, fade like MC Hammer or just burn out and be gone like Men at Work, Pet shop Boys, or others?

The kid is gonna hit puberty soon.
Then nobody is gonna give a shit.
Not like anyone does now anyway.

YARNLADY's avatar

No, his talent is no where near the genius that Michael Jackson had.

Who’s Justin Bieber?

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

I’ve never even heard this kid sing.

lillycoyote's avatar

Maybe I’m just old but I don’t even know who Justin Bieber is. But when Michael Jackson hit the world no one had to ask, everyone just knew he was one of a kind. Everyone just knew, even when he was just a kid, that he was a star. Like Stevie Wonder… he came on the scene and everyone knew that he was special, again, one of a kind.

@MissA Larvae for you just because you gave me a side splitting belly laugh ROFL, ROFL!!!!!!!

MissA's avatar

Dear @Hypocrisy_Central…do you think I’ma kidding here? hmmm.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@MissA No, I believe you 100% and that is what makes it magical because so many people think he is all that and 3 bags of chips yet you and other never heard of him.interesting and gut busting funny!

MissA's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central All I have to say is…it’s good to have a good ol’ belly laugh. Is he a pop star or someone off of a reality show?

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@MissA I believe he was a YouTube sensation who Usher has taken under his wing, so, I guess he is somewhat like a pop start with a small but loud pop. Almost like off a reality show. I think people see a way to make a quick buck off his seemingly instant fame, those giddy teen girls will buy anything cute.

@Hypocrisy_Central and @MissA Has anyone actually answered @MissA‘s question? That question being “Who’s Justin Bieber?” I too, am dying to know. :-)

YARNLADY's avatar

For those who apparently never watch or read the news, Justin Bieber is a teenage singer who was ‘discovered’ when his mother posted a YouTube video of him singing. He became so popular among the young teen crowd that people have sent death threats to female singers who appear onstage with him, and they have rioted so dangerously that two of his live performances have had to be canceled for his own safety.

lillycoyote's avatar

@YARNLADY I do read and watch the news. Apparently, and lucky for me, the news I do read and watch doesn’t necessarily consider teenage singers particularly newsworthy.

tinyfaery's avatar

The Pet Shop Boys still make music.

And…uh…no.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@tinyfaery THEY DO!?!? Where? I don’t listen to too much commercial radio but I have not heard them on the air waves in years. A special retro station I have not heard? Overseas? I thought they were cool but then they just disapeared on me and I thought they went the way of Kajagoogoo, and don’t tell me they are still making music too.

tinyfaery's avatar

Check out the wiki. Their most recent album came out in 2009.

tedibear's avatar

Never. I wasn’t a huge Michael Jackson fan, but Justin Bieber doesn’t have .000001% of the talent that Michael did. He’s just a “dreamy” boy that will be gone soon enough.

ucme's avatar

I hear tell he’s a virgin, ahh soon he’ll be Just-in Beaver no doubt ;¬}

NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
justin sounds like a girl with a squeeky voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

chyna's avatar

I have never heard of him.

jca's avatar

he’ll go the way of Backstreet Boys and those other boy bands of the 90’s that we don’t hear from any more. I think Miley Cyrus will too. the pop stars from when i was young are now nowhere to be found: Shaun Cassidy, Scott Baio, Andy Gibb (dead).

MissA's avatar

Okay, I’ll bite.

At the risk of sounding like the eldest person on the planet…and, perhaps the least informed…WHO is ‘Usher’?

@Hypocrisy_Central says that “Usher has taken (Bieber) under his wing, so, I guess he is somewhat like a pop start with a small but loud pop.”

Thanks for the info and humor, Hypocrisy Central.

Justin needs to cut his hair.

he always flicking his hair

JONESGH's avatar

I don’t really care for either of them.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@MissA Usher is kinda like a hodpog of other artist at least to me a little Prince here very little some MC Hammer there, but mostly like a cross between early Bobby Brown and P. Diddy. You might have to Google him to get all the dirt on him but he is apparently been riding atop the cream the past have decade.

jca's avatar

if you search You Tube you can hear Usher’s songs. He had at least one that you may recognize.

MissA's avatar

Thanks, kids. I’m getting old! I don’t feel it, necessarily, until we talk “new music”!

Val123's avatar

No way. @jazmina88 Don’t be dissin Donny Osmond now!

aprilsimnel's avatar

No. MJ became famous in the days were there were not as many niche outlets for pop music and entertainment as there are today.

There will most likely never again be a “Beatles”, a “Michael Jackson”, or even a “Nirvana”. The market is just too fragmented.

GlamourBot's avatar

No, Justin Bieber will fade…soon… Especially after Mimi re-record All I Want For Christmas Is You with him

Pet Shop Boys… gone? Really? Tell me you are American. They are the most successful duo in UK history, one of the 4 Billboard’s greatest dance artist and have sold 100+mil albums… New album coming in 2012…

GabrielsLamb's avatar

Justin Beeble *Or however you spell it…? Will never in his life eclipse what Michael Jackson Achieved before Michael was 10.

PERIOD!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2xc8xZ0tV0

*That’s how it’s done beelber… Blah!

*but that being said, I don’t listen to anything of his beyond Rock with you so…

YARNLADY's avatar

I doubt it, he is not that talented.

Hypocrisy_Central's avatar

@GlamourBot Pet Shop Boys… gone? Really? Tell me you are American. They are the most successful duo in UK history,... Guilty as charged, a Yankee across The Pond. However, wasn’t U2 greater, or the UK best group next to the Beatles?

GlamourBot's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central I actually meant duo…As in a group of two <Ting Tings, La Roux, Hurts, Wham!, Eurythmics, Erasure, etc…>
PSB and U2 are equally great, but nobody will ever beat The Beatles’ record of 1bil+ albums sold worldwide….:O
