Any widows/widowers out there on Fluther?

Asked by skfinkel (13537points) July 17th, 2010

How are you doing? Each year about the time my husband died, I kind of relive the loss. Does this happen to you? Have you moved on? Are you re-partnered?

I am a widow, but other than the fact that I do not wish anyone dead – I do not mourn my late husband. We had been separated for several years prior to his death & we were separated because he was emotionally abusive (we were still married because I simply did not have the funds to divorce him). I have been married 3 times. The first marriage was great & he died much too young. The other 2 marriages were mistakes & it took marrying my last husband for me to realize that there are worse things than being alone. Marriage is great when both partners make the effort to keep it working, but one person cannot make a marriage work.

Twice over for me, at age 20 and 29, but I have been happily married for 35 years now, and I very rarely think of my ‘former’ lives.
