What are your thoughts about banning?

Asked by Frenchfry (7591points) August 3rd, 2010

Banning books, soda, cigarettes, anything.. Is there something that should be banned? and something things that shouldn’t? Or should it never happen.

I am against banning books and information. I am against banning drugs and abortion and prostitution as doing so doesn’t actually achieve removal of and only instigates unsafe conditions and economic disparities.

I third that.

Yes, ban banning.

If it feels good and does not hurt anyone. What the hell.

While we are at it. Lobotomies for everyone.

@ChazMaz don’t you worry, lots of people have that anyway

Dumbass political statements that have no basis in truth or reality should be banned and penalties should be harsh and swift.

@Cruiser as long as I get to decide what constitutes a dumb ass statement ;-)

People that try to ban things should be banned.

@Cruiser TY I’ll use it judiciously.

Add another to @Simone_De_Beauvoir s conga line. Banning things creates artificial criminals and promotes disrespect for the law. The only things that should be banned from possession are substances which, in and of themselves, are an imminent physical threat; such as Plutonium, nerve agent or large quantities of unstable explosives. Community moral standards and personal health are not sufficient reason to ban possession of any object.
