What kind of things should I be involved in my senior year?

Asked by Brenna_o (1779points) August 9th, 2010

I am going to be a senior in high school in septembet. I am very involved in band. I play flute, and I am in the color guard and twirl the flag, also I am color guard captain this year. Plus I have a job in a grade school tutoring 4th graders.
I have been wondering what other kinds of things I should get involved in such as a club, sport, volunteer work, ect. So if you have any suggestions that would be great!
Also any advice for a high school senior?

All of the things you’re doing sound great. Admirable, in fact.

Don’t forget to have fun, too. Go to the beach. Drink smoothies with your best friend. Visit an art museum. Write a poem. Enjoy life!

Take lots of pictures. Maybe the photography club or something. One thing I liked doing was staying after school for the Anime club. That was really fun. Mock Trial, maybe? You sound super busy anyway. Have a really great senior year! I played the flute in high school, too.

Don’t forget academics. Many seniors do.

Sounds like you have a full plate already! If you’re asking in terms of what looks good on college applications, it’s more important to show sustained commitment to activities and leadership in those activities than having a lot of different variety, and it sounds like you have that with band, color guard and tutoring. Pick something that’s fun for you.

You didn’t say if you are going on to college or not or what career you may be shooting for. Either way I would suggest networking in any way you can muster with people, businesses, counselors, future schools. Dig in deep to find out all you can about the path you see yourself following. The more you can find out now the easier it will be not only for you to make decisions on what you are doing but will also allow you to see more clearly the means to your end. Good luck!

Take it all in!!! Before you know it, you’ll be at your ten year reunion. Definitely take lots of pictures…maybe even make a scrapbook. Enjoy it.

I do plan on furthering my education. To what extent I am still unsure. I would like atleast an AA but probably not a doctorate degree in anything.. I have been told to be a nurse, teacher, or a social worker careers would work well for me. I am however not the best at getting good grades. I get super frustrated with things like math and science so its hard to stay focused on academics as much as activities, and my job.
