Does having a small uterus mean you'll have a harder time getting pregnant?

Asked by chelle21689 (7907points) August 11th, 2010

I’m just curious because I know a girl that has a small uterus but she has never had a menstrual cycle..she can’t get pregnant. I remember the doctor telling me one time I had a small uterus but she said it as if it was no big deal.

I don’t think that having a small uterus has anything to do with you having your babies or not!
It just depends or people. Maybe she was just born like that!

Okay, let’s break it down. Pregnancy occurs because your ovaries release an egg which is then fertilized by a sperm followed by movement of the zygote through the Fallopian Tubes to only later implant in the uterus, regardless of its size. The girl in question may be an intersex person or have a condition that renders her infertile which has nothing to do with the uterus.

Well, if she has something IN her uterus, like a tumor, than that can make it harder for her to get preggo. But, I doubt the actual uterus size can effect it. The uterus pre-prego is pretty small anyway. About the size of a fist I believe?

What @Simone_De_Beauvoir said.

The uterus is like a fleshy balloon. It grows. A lot.

The only way I could see having a small uterus making it harder to get pregnant would be if there isn’t much surface area for implantation to occur.

The only reason that you can’t get pregnant if there’s no fertilization that occurs, there’s tumor located in the uterus, a t-shaped uterus or you have endometriosis. There’s no definite reason for a small uterus incapable of having a baby.

The small uterus is really no reason for not getting pregnant. Could be that she is just infertile for a number of reasons including intersex, having not XX genome but simply just X (these type of people tend to be small and frail as well), etc.
