Nurse Anesthesist starts at over 100,000.
I would say go for that for sure!

Nurse Anesthesioligist or Surgical Nurse, I believe. Of course going into nursing management increases your pay as well.

Nurse Anesthetist is a specialty field after completing a Master’s Degree. You can become a RN with an ADN, but will be limited in how far you can go from there. You can also get a BSN which will open you up to more leadership and management options. Once you get to the MSN level, you get into advanced practice nursing (such as nurse anesthetist, nurse-midwife (for the states that still allow them), clinical nurse specialist, and nurse practitioner). There is talk about making the nurse practitioner require a doctorate degree instead of a MSN.

Working in a specialty unit (such as a cardiac intensive care unit) will pay more than a medical-surgical unit.

Working at the hospital will pay more than working at a doctor’s office.

Management makes more than floor nurses.

Where you live will also affect how much you can make. I took a major pay cut when we moved from the east coast to the midwest.

Obtaining certification in any area will increase your pay level.

As far as working at a state facility versus non-state facilities, it would depend on the overall package they offer you. State employees tend to have some really good benefits (such as time off, paid holidays, and pensions), so that has to be considered when comparing salaries.

I know a Nurse Anesthetist but he had a MASTERS degree.

@Seaofclouds beat me to it.

With just the BSN, I would say cardio or neuro ICU nurses. But they are also the most stressed.

If you like field work medivac trauma nurses get pretty good pay too.

My wife has a PHD in nursing and is also a nurse practitioner. but her main job is teaching at a university. There will be a severe shortage of nursing professors in the very near future. teaching nursing is a great job! you make good money and get off all summer. And if you would like, you can always pick up work in the summers and weekends as a nurse practitioner

Get your Masters Degree and come to Vanderbilt Hospital. the pay is excellent and so are the benefits.

How about being a consultant nurse endoscopist at £80,000.
