Why will the mods delete a question for being a duplicate, even if the question was asked years ago?

Asked by jca (36062points) February 3rd, 2011

Fluther is changing so rapidly. Most of the Jellies that were here when I started over 3 years ago are no longer active. It’s almost like an All-New Fluther! Yet sometimes I will post a question and it will be moved to editing for being a duplicate. The answers that we will get now are most likely going to be totally different answers, since there are mostly totally different Jellies.

Do the mods not realize that?

Can you give an example of what you’re talking about, please? As a mod, I have never deleted a question as a duplicate if it is a year old or more. Often, users also simply don’t realize that a question has already been asked recently.

Why, power trips, of course ~

Thanks for asking this question- and anyone who thinks this has happened please contact the mod staff (using the button on top) and ask for us to take a closer look.

The honest answer is we don’t delete a question for being a duplicate when it is that old.

For the most part we allow questions that are duplicates of questions over a year old- and sometimes 6 months depending on the question.

That being said this mod made a mistake this morning thinking a question was a duplicate of this one asked a couple of days ago. While they are very similar they are not duplicates.
I am sorry about that. :(

I will ask @Augustlan to restore it for you or you can re-ask it and I will send you the original text. Please just let me know.

I guess they are human, which is why I guess you can have the question of “does _______ love me?” said slightly different 5 dozen different ways and it is still a new question. I know what you mean and it is a wonder….... :-P

I just wanted to let you know that we’ve restored your question. Sorry for the mix-up!

What? I see duplicate questions every single day.

@YARNLADY: Then flag them.

No, duplicate questions will come up when you ask them, but I will still ask it if the question was last asked years ago, as there are new users now and it’s likely to receive all different opinions, ideas, advice. I don’t see duplicate questions that have been asked recently.
