I'm having Comcast Channel Lineup problems with my Sony TV?

Asked by oxjox (38points) May 3rd, 2011

I’m not a fan of the Comcast box, more specifically, the user interface for the guide and channel info. I would prefer to use my TVs built in guide and channel lineup. This poses problems though.

I have a Sony TV in my living room and a Vizio TV in my bedroom. Both are hooked up to the same cable service via the coax cable straight out of the wall in to the back of the TV. There are no boxes. I have limited basic cable for $17.

Here’s the main problem, while the Vizio still receives channels 12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4, 12.12, 17.1, 17.2, 17.3, 17.4 the Sony TV is having a hard time decoding them. Previously the Sony was able to display those channels with no problem. I think i did a channel scan at some point when channels moved around and I lost the 12s and 17s. Meanwhile, no issues with the Vizio.

I logged in to Comcast’s website and had a chat with one of their “techs” who were of course less than helpful. I was hoping they’d be able to bump up my signal a bit to get those channels in clearer. It seems that without a box hooked up there’s no way for them to tell what the signal strength currently is. In the old days, they would actually come out to your house to test it but I guess that’s not an option anymore.

So, I’m open to all thoughts, suggestions and solutions. The last thing I want to do is put a box under my TV.

What you can do is get an RF signal booster and then splice into your signal cable. Just make sure everything is compatible. It’s also completely legal.
