O man….it’s choking and stinging and you feel like you’re suffocating. My best friend and I were there to watch her husband’s band, and she was eight months pregnant. They gassed every one, like the article said, without warning, including little kids. We got smart though. We marched back into the park and when they set off the gas we’d just step left or right and let the wind carry it away beside us. The first time though…you have no brains. You just run for your life.

No, I never have been. I bet it’s awful though. I did get “herded” once by two police officers on horseback. That’s the only form of “crowd control” I’ve ever been on the receiving end of and that was scary and unpleasant enough for me. Some friends an I were “protesting” a KKK rally being held at the capitol building in Austin, TX. It really wasn’t even a protest, just a counter presence but things got a little heated as you might imagine, and I’m not sure even exactly what happened but the next thing I knew a group of us were essentially being “herded” like cattle by the two mounted police. I’m only 5’4’ and it was extremely intimidating, uncomfortable and actually kind of scary to find myself trapped and on the move between two big horses with nowhere to go but where they want you to go.

Hey…Lilly…I’m 5’8” and at a 4th of July fireworks thing in Wichita some gang banger shot and killed a gramma. I had a horse-mounted officer charge right past me..the horse brushed me as it was pounding past. It’s scary even for people who aren’t midgets!

Yes. Driving in Seoul during the 1987 unrest. I was driving down the street with 2 business associates in the car. One noticed the smoke up ahead and reached over to shut off the A/C. He told me “Don’t Stop”. I didn’t.

Did you get a whiff of it @worriedguy?

In basic training we had to experience CS gas one time. Didn’t like it much.

Yes, barely.

There was a KKK rally (maybe a dozen klansmen) and an absolutely huge counter-protest (hundreds of folks) in my town. I went, but I wasn’t boisterous – I was actually sitting on the curb with some knitting. All around me, though, people were yelling and screaming. Around a corner, a bunch of protesters came running, saying there was tear gas. After a short while, I caught what must have been a bit of it. It was acrid and nasty. I decided to get going.

On one hand, I didn’t experience the full-on application of tear gas – just a whiff. On the other hand, it is sometimes fun to say that I was tear gassed while knitting.

No but my ex-wife maced me and that truly sucked….I liken it to what I imagine getting tasered would feel like…..ouchy-wow-wa!

Yes I have, the worst part was there was a guy in the chamber who was immune and was looking at the rest of us like what the hell is wrong with you guys?

digitalimpression's avatar

Absolutely loved it. Cleared up my sinuses. Pepper Spray is worse.

King_Pariah's avatar

@digitalimpression HAHAHA! IT sure does that! Great way to get rid of a allergies for a bit. LOL

Yeah! And it makes you totally forget about the fact that you’re barefoot in a sticker-infested park! I woke up the next morning….my feet hurt so bad and were so swollen from the stickers. Adrenaline + tear gas does the damnedest things.

bea2345's avatar

Yes. It was unpleasant and frightening. I thought I would strangle.

King_Pariah's avatar

It’s best with milk

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah @bea2345. And when I recovered, the thought of babies and children experiencing that…I came unglued.
