What do you do about rude people who personally attack another for simply asking a question?

I’m so sick of it. I’m about to delete my page.

I am sorry you feel that way!

As for what I feel I should do after I see something like that happening, I’d have to see the specific post to know.

Who knows? Maybe the person is lonely and was taking his or her anger and/or hurt out on you because he or she had nobody to spend Christmas with.

Hey, it’s possible.

The best thing you can do is “be the bigger person”, no matter how much that hurts. I know it’s easier said than done and that we’re all human and that it’s normal to feel the need to defend ourselves, but why talk to a brick wall if the person is indeed being a brick wall? It’s like smashing your head against it again and again only to bring you more pain while that person gets entertainment out of you hurting yourself over his or her antics. It’s not worth it.

There are people like that no matter where you go. I am sure you have had plenty of positive answers and interactions with others on fluther with all that lurve you have!:) Do not leave fluther needs good people to answer questions without being rude.

Perhaps their ‘attack’ was a response to something you said. Perhaps you need to look at the post you made and consider how it might have been received by others.

If you feel someone has attacked you in a post, you can flag it and a mod who is not involved in that thread will evaluate the situation and remove posts that do indeed seem to be personal attacks. Someone disagreeing with you would not be considered a personal attack.

Yeah, there are some sad people here who have nothing better to do than be a dick to others. They must be lonely. Luckily the nice people outnumber the assholes.

You did the right thing, which was to flag it. Unfortunately, you then deleted your account. :(

That is a shame… Perhaps they will come back eventually.

It’s the Internet. When hiding behind a computer, some think it’s ok to be a pompous douchebag. Take it lightheartedly. There a bigger things to worry about than somebody being mean on the internet.

@EmptyNest I know for sure former EmptyNest is reviewing this thread. I speak from experience. Take a break off Fluther for a bit. Come back :) and realize it’s just the internet. Everyone here is just very opinionated and for the most part have the mindset of, “I know a thing or two.” So when they answer questions, they are pretty confident in their stations. However, we all know, that were not being paid to give answers on this site and therefore are not considered professionals, but it doesn’t mean we don’t carry the best intentions. Some people, just like in every day society, are pooty mannered and that’s just how things are. Please come back and realize the good of Fluther far out weighs the negatives. Think about what brought you here in the first place. Was it the questions first? Or the social feel of it? Remember it’s a Question and Answer site, anything could arrive! Honest debates, personal attacks, solid answers with sources, short quick witty answers, trolling, back and forth, great advice, and etc. Just remember when you come back, come back strong with thicker skin, and realize like I have, that you can ask a question that you personally think is legit, but someone else might write it off and answer it like a douche, and on the other hand others might take it seriously and respond whole heartedly. I would recommend asking questions in the black and white sense first, usually that is in the General Section. Slowly gravitate back to social (where most anything could be said as long as it’s not demeaning). Good luck, take your break, see you soon hopefully! Feel free to PM if you want to get some one on one with someone who’s quit before but surely has returned.

^ I’m glad you posted that, @whitetigress. I needed to hear that as well. :)

Laugh at them & move on seamlessly.
Just words on a screen after all.

I put them in a big slingshot and hurl them into the sun.

I’ll reserve judgment unless I know the actual situation. Some scenarios are legitimate, and some aren’t.

bob_'s avatar

I kindly ask them to suck my dick.

FutureMemory's avatar

@bob_ Have you had much success?

AnonymousWoman's avatar

Alright, @bob_.

I just wanted to be funny. It might not have worked.

FutureMemory's avatar

^^ It seems I have my answer.

jonsblond's avatar

I see @bob_ is movin’ on up from sandwiches. :P

AnonymousWoman's avatar

How could anyone say “No” to that cartoon avatar? ^_^

bob_'s avatar

@FutureMemory Always worth a shot.

@jonsblond What, you thought I was some sort of one-dimensional character? :P

@AnonymousGirl How you doin’?

AnonymousWoman's avatar

I may be about to make a sandwich. Want one?

rooeytoo's avatar

@jonsblond – I thought the same thing. @bob_ the make me a sandwich response was annoying but at least not quite as demeaning as your new directive!

I get sick of that type of person too. I also get sick of the ones who have to keep rebutting every post that is made especially when it involves personal opinions not an absolute provable facts!

My solution is to simply let them have their all so important last word and move on. Granted I mumble and splutter as I am doing it but just because they are control freaks and have to have it their way doesn’t mean that I should behave that way too! I will be the bigger person despite the fact I am only 5’

bob_'s avatar

@rooeytoo I did say kindly!

And, um, I was kidding

rooeytoo's avatar

@bob_ are you really???

rooeytoo's avatar

okey dokey!

AnonymousWoman's avatar

Why, yes, you are a clown… and an amusing one at that.

So, is this what you do to rude people who personally attack others? Confuse them by throwing on a clown costume?

bob_'s avatar

@AnonymousGirl Erm, you probably haven’t seen Goodfellas, have you? :)
