Can we have a thread about feel music?

Asked by Michael_Huntington (15982points) June 7th, 2012

Post here for some feel music. What’s “feel music” you ask? Music that grabs your heart and never lets go. Music that makes you cry and feel alive at the same time. Music that makes you ponder your existence in this cold cynical world. Music that’s like an ocean wave that overwhelms you and drags you to the depths. And you don’t care. So no hippity hoppity happy music.

Here’s an example if you still can’t comprehend. Dead Can Dance-Hymn For the Fallen

@fremen_warrior Are you in North America? There’s a DCD tour coming this August

You like Dead Can Dance? I need to find a way to put up some of my recordings.

fremen_warrior's avatar

@Michael_Huntington sadly no, Eastern Europe, but I suppose I can still make it for the Budapest concert :D

Oh yeah!
Do not click link if you’re at all “squeamish” or you may feel, ever so slightly ickie.

@ucme wtf did I just watch? o_O

Michael_Huntington's avatar

@wundayatta Yes. That would be cool
@fremen_warrior I’m really digging Tell Me About the Forest. Tickets seem expensive here, just a heads up.
@ucme Wat. I can’t feel to this.

ucme's avatar

@Michael_Huntington It makes me cry, granted, through utter frustration, but still.
@fremen_warrior You were duly warned.

I’ve linked to this before, but this is the piece that always comes to mind in questions like this: Poem of Ecstasy Music written by a theosophist, mystic, and fellow synesthete. I was blown away the first time I listened to this piece. (7:00 to the end will give you an idea of what I’m talking about).

Michael_Huntington's avatar

@DominicX So far this is scaring me. I’ll still listen to the whole thing, though.

Michael_Huntington's avatar

oh my god, the feels in your song is off the charts. @DominicX. A++++ 10/10, would feel again.

fremen_warrior's avatar

@Michael_Huntington Pery’s voice, as always, is amazing in this one, add the mind blowing lyrics and viola, you’re no longer yourself!
@ucme the…. horror…, the…. horror!
@DominicX this is a tad too “monumental” for my tastes

Also try the ‘old’ Mile Oldfield, pre-“Music of the spheres” even; Have a go at the entire Songs of distant Earth album. Oldfield IMHO is one of the most underrated, dare I say, composers of our time

ucme's avatar

That’s much better.
@fremen_warrior I like me some Tubular Bells, Jean Michel Jarre & yes, Fleetwood Mac’s Albatross is also a goodie.

The Memory of Trees Taliesen Orchestra.

This song makes me think of flying over oceans and lakes, and grand figure skating routines and ballet, and deep love.

@ucme I also love Tubular Bells, especially the version in which Alan Rickman is announcing all of the instruments as they come into play. This Version

Alan “the voice” Rickman, a former jelly liked him too, I wonder what became of her.
