Hi can anyone explain how to calculate a shadows length in simple terms?

i have viewed numerous formulas but can get my head around it.

Stand still while using a measuring tape?

Shadow will change length as the sun moves thru the sky. Try something concrete; like the height of a flagpole. Then use that useful trig..you learned in school. (HInt: corner of shadow and bottom of pole make a right angle.)
