NSFW Why aren't male adult stars smaller?

Asked by Imadethisupwithnoforethought (14270 points ) August 8th, 2012

In considering adult entertainment it occurred to me that men with large equipment become famous porn stars, and become stars in their own right.

If the majority of porn movies are watched by men, I would assume they would prefer men with below the average genital sizes so that they could watch the movie without being threatened by inadequate size comparisons. So what is going on? I am interested in your thoughts as to what may be going on in the minds of men watching.

Moreover, shouldn’t the men in porn movies be really ugly and out of shape, so the viewer feels better about themselves?

The main point of watching pornography is not to feel better about yourself, it’s to get aroused.

Great question, and they should choose females with average size boobs and a spot of cellulite. Oh wait a minute, that is why amateur porn is doing so well. (Other wise the realistic men watching could get distorted ideas of what women should look like , maybe?)

Because the “money shot” would look like a worm choking on a glass of milk & who wants to see that huh…who, who?

With this kind of voyeurism, guys aren’t watching some guy banging a woman, they imagine it is them. Therefore, they would want to imagine themselves with heavy equipment.

@filmfann – I agree. I also think some guys are a little delusional about their own equipment.

@bewailknot That’s true. They aren’t all like me….

Sure. Ugly, pot belly and not so big. Yeah, go get some videos from the 70’s. Plenty there. They were even hairy as heck. The girls also wrinkled like an accordion. Yeah, I don’t see those flying off the shelf any time soon. They try to sell to both sexes. If its got ugly men, than women will not be interested and same for men.
I’m pretty sure its a marketing ploy.

A man’s mojo is more important than penis size. A director/producer’s main concerns would be:
-Can you achieve an erection on cue?
-Can you maintain an erection through the entire scene?
-Can you climax on cue?

If you answer yes to all three you’re a sexual ninja and ready to shoot porn.

Some of those guys are so freakin’ huge, you gotta wonder if they were grown in some sort of porno science lab or something. Sheesh!

The lead character, and indeed, all characters of the same sex as the viewer are supposed to be characters the viewer can identify with and want to be. It’s not the lead character fucking the pulchritudinous female lead, it’s you! I mean, how are you going to jerk off if you can’t identify with the male lead?

And come on! Are you trying to tell me that you can identify with a little tiny weewee that wouldn’t satisfy a squirrel, much less an actual human female? Come on @Imadethisupwithnoforethought. You don’t always have to live up to your name, do you? Duh!

Imadethisupwithnoforethought's avatar

@wundayatta so, are you saying that pornography with an emphasis on oversize male genitalia is bred by men who have small penises and want to have large genitalia and are deeply unsatisfied with the inadequate amount that they are born with? And you think I am foolish to not understand this perspective on the topic you have?

I actually watch it to see the opposite sex get dominated and have a good time. Not so much on the compare and contrast game as you’re painting the situation of most viewers to be.

Wait… Did you say that equipment was above average?

wundayatta's avatar

@Imadethisupwithnoforethought Oh dear me, no, no, no. You’ve got totally the wrong idea. I’m assuming that you can only identify with equipment that is like yours. Presumably, that is what you see in the movies. Right? Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Say no more. Say no more. ;-)
