What are some words that look and sound funny to you?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) December 14th, 2012

This has probably been asked before, but I’ll start a new thread.

Shuttlecock and brouhaha have always sounded weird to me.

Defenestrate. Love that word. Also, the word pillow. It makes me think about pillows, and I like pillows. Soft!

Onomatopoeia.

@Patton I wonder what Chief Seattle thought about his name…

Congregational – too many hard sounds.

Cacophonous @jonsblond that is onomatopoeic..

This could just be me, but sometimes perfectly ordinary and well known words can suddenly look and sound peculiar. Even simple ones like ‘dear’.

Vagina has always sounded inappropraite as the definition for what it is.

Sounds more like an illness or disease.

One of the most popular words to hate when being interviewed by James Lipton is moist.

Really funny when someone says it. I’ve only come across one person who’s used it.

Krakatoa, sounds like someone just suffered an injury whilst kicking a blunt object such as a rock or maybe a tree stump.

CUNNINGLINGUS. Haw haw. :)

Unbroken's avatar

^I always thought it was similar to cunning or skilled linguist. Imagination fascination

AshlynM's avatar

Conundrum.
Quandary.
Testicle.
Ruckus.

Only138's avatar

@rosehips It is about being a cunning linguist. A master of many tongues. LOL

Unbroken's avatar

@Only138 Agreed. Appropriate.

Just like vagina is similar to angina which has become another symbol for love. The V is used to symbolize the pocket of feminity. The n is removed and put into the center of the penis for phallic object it is.

Or the heart symbol itself. The lower half a V the upper half boobs balls or bubble butts.

Certainly not from the shape of the physical heart.

I love words and symbols. So fun.
