On an everyday basis, what simple thing are you very thankful for?

Hot running water? Your mate, your friends? your cat?

How do you show or feel your gratitude?

I am thankful for various things on a daily basis from having people I love to being warm, water, food and having my health. It’s a good question as to how I show my gratitude because I think with most of the things I am guilty of just taking it for granted when in actual fact perhaps I should not do that.

Water, food, a nice place to stay, appliances. Insulin and test strips!!!! I try not to waste any of these things or let them fall into disrepair.

My family sits around the table for dinner every night and instead of praying, we share gratitudes.

Last night my gratitudes were: I’m thankful I got through a complicated workweek, that we will be able to go on a short trip next week, that my kids are happy and healthy, that I have enough money to pay bills this week, that I didn’t eff up the new recipe I tried.

On a larger scale, I’m thankful I have a place to live, food, that I’m getting somewhere with my life and goals, that I am able to exercise and become fit, and that my kids are happier here than where we used to live.

I am incredibly thankful to have found and started a life with my husband/soul mate and for three happy, healthy kids. I am also thankful my ex-husband hasn’t filed a new lawsuit against me for three full months!

My eyes and ears. I don’t know how I would live without my vision or hearing.

I’m also thankful for my low blood sugar awareness. It’s not as good as it used to be, but it’s still there, and that is nothing to sneeze at.

I was talking with a homeless guy downtown recently. He told me how much he missed having a place to relax after work, to be able to cook hot meals and sleep in a bed.

Love, water, not necessarily in that order.

The list is very long, but I’ll top it with a great family and the fact that I have all the physical comforts anyone could possible want. Ever since I saw a report of a woman who had to travel two or three miles every day to scoop up some rather filthy water and carry it back for her family, I feel guilty every time I turn my faucet on.

I am always grateful for good food, shelter, and for my body not having any aches and pains. Of course, the latter happens less and less as time goes on.

My eyeglasses. Otherwise I’d have to haul around a magnifying glass in order to read. It’s bad enough that I keep misplacing one of my dozen pairs.

My wife, my dog, my house, my job. In that order.

Feeling safe.

I’m grateful that life often gives you second choices and opportunities, as long as you don’t keep banging on a closed door and miss the open window behind you.
